I don't have much crankbait experience in the colder water periods but want to start getting some. I use a DDD a lot in the warmer months. Would you fish it the same in 50 degree water as you would 70 degree water? Or is cold water cranking more of a straight retrieve deal? Thanks for the help.

I'll usually do a medium slow crank with a pause and maybe a small jerk. As it gets near the boat I always pull up hard once or twice and finish with an eight.

some options:
1) hard twitch a suspendo back to the boat, a very well balanced bait with real long pauses on tight line. like 10 second pauses, just let it sit there then make it explode for a couple feet
2) fast crank with occasional pauses back to the boat
3) slow crank with occasional pauses back to the boat
4) alternate fast and slow cranks straight back to the boat
note - all of the above options are permutated by the variables of sinking, suspending and floating baits. Then add color choices. There is not enough time to try them all. Endless choices.
