Thinking about fishing the Cave this weekend 9/21-9/22. I'm not completely familiar with this lake but have had some success in front of the Zilpo area. Cave Run Lake Line is reporting temps of 80, 80, and 77 at surface, 10', and 25' respectively. Any of you KY boys local to the area care to share any tips for this time of year? Thanks

Raised one on Sunday around 9:00am in the weeds in front of Zilpo... Right before the 8 she saw me and disappeared back to her lair... The water temp is either still to warm or I suck at this; all I wanted was a kiss... Once the water cools down a bit, I'll be back...

I just got off the phone with tony and he said they have federal agents waiting in the woods watching for people to launch their boats.

Here's the deal. I fished Wed thru Sat last week. The ramps were closed with plastic barrells and caution tape, which for the most part were torn down. Some are chancing the ramp blockcade and are using them and then parking in the lots. They are risking a fine and without care. There were no Feds in the woods, there were no tow trucks, no concrete barriers. I have yet to hear of anyone being fined. They only thing I saw were some fishing campers at the boat in campground get run off by the county sherriff ( no fed, Huh?) , the cop was nice, but the campers just took his advice and moved on a little further down the bank out of the camp site and set up again. They just beached their boat. All the guides in the area have figured it out. Last week they tied all their boats up in the private marinas. They pick up their clients in the marina parking lots which the feds don't own. (No ramp pass needed) IN my opinion this shutdown situation should be a boon for guide business. They are primarily the only ones out on a lake with no other fishing pressure from other boats. I can tell you they are solidly booked and should be enjoying a good cash flow. You see and the way I understand, the lake (water) is state regulated and land is Fed, so being out on the lake is not illegal, just most need a place to get on and park and thats illegal.

two things , one -- there is talk of concrete barriers being brought in . Obviously if you are out of state and not local you are not taking the chance to make a trip to the cave to be turned away at the launch .
two-- The R house has sent Harry Reid 8 bills that fund the park systems and war memorials and other fed govt things but Obama and Reid have taken the " all or nothing " stand .. and refuse to bring those bills to the senate floor for a vote .

We fished Thurs, Fri, and Sat this past week. We put in at Claylick ramp(we had 3 boats). We talked to US Forest Service Law Enforcement on Sat. night, he basically told us that they were ordered to close all ramps on the lake, so far they were not issuing citations yet(did tell us that they would be trespassing on federal property when they did). We asked who we could call and complain to about the ramps being closed, he said the director of the US Forest Service issued the orders. The officer was super nice, even apologetic, but he had a job to do. On a happy note we did manage to catch 7 muskies up to 44.5" and raise quite a few more.

Some folks can't stand not fouling the good Muskie angling outdoors air with politics.
