Posts: 512 | Looking at a trip to LOTW next year, just wondered where you guys would suggest for good fishing close to camp, good wind protection, and if one area is better than another, etc.. Looking at around Mylies place, Nestor Falls, and NW angle. Thanks Dave Edited by Dave T. 8/30/2013 11:59 AM

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | We stayed at both Buena Vista and Mylies this year. Mylies is more protected - at least if it's howling you can still sneak eastward into Sab Bay and tuck away a little bit without getting quite as pounded. When it blew hard and we were at BV you still have to get across a good chuck of water that's ripping pretty good in order to get anywhere. However, when it blows that hard you're going to get wet no matter where you go.

I second Red Wing Lodge. It's really affordable, nice and there's good fishing all around the camp.

You can not beat the hospitality from Mike and Annie at Red Wing if you want Sabaskong bay. Love them guys. If your going west then Walsh's Bay store has my nods and you wont be paying Canadian gas bills there either. Great people there too. Theres fish right by the dock at Red Wing too. Big Muskie Inc supporters and a great lunge log. Edited by 4amuskie 8/30/2013 5:02 PM

Mylies Place ! Newer cabins at an unbeatable price. Friendly & attentive owners. If your looking for a housekeeping place to stay generally close to good fishing , you just can't go wrong staying there.

Posts: 174 | Dave, in the last 12 years or so, I have stayed at many places in Sabaskong. Young's Wilderness Camp, Lake of the Woods Lodge, C & C in Nestor, Split Rock, and Red Wing. I would recommend them all. If push comes to shove, I like Split Rock's location the best. In about a week, we are going over to the Angle for the first time and staying at Walsh's Baystore. Excited to try a new area, AND a little nervous at the same time. If you would decide to go to Sabaskong, I can help you with some fishing tips and locations. If you want wind protection, staying at any of the places in the eastern part of Sabaskong will suit you. Out at the Morson area, it is more open and bigger water. You have to be careful and watch your map closely no matter where you go. If I would go to the western part of Sabaskong, I would probably try Mylies. Can't remember the owner's name at the moment, but in my conversations with him and what he puts out on the web as far as fishing reports and such, he seems like a really good guy that does everything to help you have a good time.
