| Looking for some input. I have a 2012 200 optimax and I am going to Canada in a few weeks. I have not ran the motor a great deal to know how much oil it really uses. Would I be ok filling the 3 gallon remote tank for one week in Canada or should I bring some extra with me? I know there are some variables, just looking for some rough input from current owners. | I Have a 2000 optimax 200 and I feel that should be plenty. I would be surprised if you went thru half that. There is a lot of variables there tho. |

Location: Hopefully on the water | If you are going to be making long runs or just running around a bunch to different spots bring a extra gallon. I would think that having it filled before you leave that you would have enough. I run a 2010 200 Optimax and only go through about 1 1/2 gallons a year on the high side but don't put the hours as some others do that run that motor.
I would guess guys that either guide or fish a lot on a regular basis (couple times a week) would have a good idea of how much they go through in a week of oil. |

| depends on what lake are you going to and how much running you plan to do? I have a 250 proxs and used 4+ gallons of DFI oil in 5.5 days on LOTW ,,,I run a lot though..right around 25 gallons of gas daily .

| Thanks for the replies fellas. You all confirmed my thoughts in one way or the other. I'll fill it up and bring extra with me to be safe. Going to Eagle and have not had this boat there before. |

Location: Madison, WI | Running a 150 Opti. As other guys have said, if you are making long runs, over 15-20 miles one way, you will see alot more oil used. If you are making shorter runs it hardly uses any. I usually have the tank full and bring 2 extra gallons. Thats fishing LOTW for a little over a week. I always come home with 2-3 gallons left. Its a no brainer to bring more because its not a bad investment, you are going to use it at some point. |

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | It depends on how hard you run it. If you're running in the 3500 +/- sweet spot opti's use very little oil. If you like to run over 4000rpm's you're going to use as much as an efi. I rarely go over 4k for any length of time and have never used more then 6 gallons in a given year and that includes lots of trips where I run.
I run a 225 opti for reference.

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | Don't worry about it, fill the tank and take an extra gallon. It's not worth putting a hitch in your giddy up while on a trip to not have backup oil along. After three days look at the tank and see how you are doing. Speeds your killer, so if you run wide open you burn it up. I have done some bush trips and have found that if you have backup along most likely you won't need it. If you do not...you'll run out. I dunno Murphy or Sworral's law something like that. |

| I always filled my oil before my week long LOTW trips and never came close to needing extra. I think one year I burned about 80 gallons of fuel up there. That was a lot of running and always at WOT! That's just a little over a gallon of oil. You'd have to do more running than fishing to run out of oil in a week.
There was one time I did need that extra gallon. Somebody went to fill my gas tank, and wondered why it only took a gallon! My remote oil fill was stamped "GAS", and well, you get the rest. Luckily, I had a spare gallon in my truck. I always carried a spare gallon in my truck. Usually ended up in someone else's boat, not mine.

| I thought I would report back. Just got back from our trip and we used around 85 gallons of fuel and used about 2 1/2 gallons of oil. Made some long runs evey day. |

| Does an Opti burn oil at a set rate per gallon of gas like the old 100 to 1 mix, or does oil consumption ratio change as speed changes?

| wow....that seems like a lot of oil for 85 gallons......that's way more than 50:1......

| I noticed huge difference by running the motor at lower RPMs. I had a buddy run out of oil up there one year! Difficult to find that's for sure. Filled my tank and brought two gallons to be safe.

| As for the oil, I'm sure my motor is still going through its break in time. Only had engine over 4000 rpm's 2 times on the entire trip. The fishing was tough. Had a bunch of fish nipping in the 8. We got 3 fish for the week with the biggest at 47. Saw a jaw dropper and multiple 50-53" fish. Weather was the biggest factor on the bite. We did see some cool stuff--saw a wolf chase a fawn into the lake. |

| Oh, new motor? That explains that. The Opti basically double oils for the break in period. You'll probably use a gallon next year.
Jaw Droppers. Those are the fish that dreams are made of, and keep you going back. I remember one with Brian Major. 2nd biggest fish he'd ever seen. I always hit that bay whenever I go to Sab.

| Shep, The jaw dropper will be burnt into my memory for a while. After talking to another in camp that raised the same fish we both agreed she was 55-56" and around the 45lb mark. A true tanker. It will keep me going back to Eagle for years to come. |

Location: Lake St. Clair | I run a 2012 200 opti as well and fish a few times a week on Lake St Clair. I would fill it up all the way and bein an extra gallon or two. Of course it will depend on how much you are running. I will sometimes make 12-16 mile runs when fishing the south shore (Canadian side) so that can burn some oil. Like said above better to be safe than sorry. |

cbuf, in 2008 I figured I'd get my oil on the drive up to Canada. Well, unfortunately we mainly drove through the night and no place was open. I ended up getting my oil at that tackle/souvenir shop right outside of Fort Frances on Highway 17. I paid $130 for 2 gallons of oil. My rear end is still sore from that deal LOL. |
