| I got braid in my 2007 opti prop.
Not sure if it is real bad but I know some is still in there.
I am learning boat and trailer maintenance but by bit but I have never removed my prop on this motor myself.
How do I do do this?
Should I be worried about my seal?
Do I need a torque wrench as it states "tighten to 55lbs" in manual.
I know u guys will be able to help me.
Thanks

Location: Sun Prairie, WI | Never taken a prop of a newer motor but im sure its still the same. There is a lock of some sorts on there you will need to pry up so the nut can be removed. Remove the nut and the prop pulls right off. There should be a plastic sleeve in the prop that might want to fall out. No biggie if it does just don't forget to install it. Then there will be a thrust washer under the prop on the prop shaft. Sometimes they stick to the bottom of the prop. Pull it off the shaft but note the way it was on there. There is a right and wrong way. Inspect seal for any fishing line. If line is left on the shaft It will destroy the seal. Then reinstall everything in the opposite order. Tighten nut. Ive never torqued them. Just reasonably tight and install the lock mechanism. Its not rocket science. You tube may help as well. |

| If you find any line under the seal, it's already damaged, and likely water is getting in your lower unit. Time for a new seal. It's not too expensive to have done, but it is very important that you get it done. after you let it sit for a day or so, I would suggest removing the lower plug, and see if any water comes out. Water will be the first to come out, so if you get lube right away, you probably dodged a bullet.
Not sure which HP Opti you have, but check your owners manual on torquing the prop nut. Pretty sure it changed from 55 lb ft to 105 on my 200 Opti a few years ago. If your owners manual says 55, double check with your dealer. And you should torque it accurately.

| Better check with your dealer or a Merc tech. I'm pretty sure they increased the torque. I want to say to 95 lb ft, but it might be a bit higher. |
