Squirly Burts, Dannys, and select suicks. Also spinner baits such as slop busters and many others. Also depends on how thick the "slop" is. If its not terrible ill throw a dive/rise bait or floating crank. If it's really thick ill thrown a spinner bait.

Does anyone have trouble with not getting good hooks into a fish with the Slopmaster because of the single hook? Anyone add a trailer hook to the lure?

Depending how thick the slop is...suick, spinnerbait (I like Nutbusters...but Kinkaid is my "home" water so figure that one out), and a large rat. Last Fall, I had my best season in the slop, especially because of learning to run a suick effectively. Given my preference over the fish's I'd choose the spinnerbait, but again the fish don't always agree, so if I'm targeting the thick stuff I'll have all three set to go. Least favorite is the mouse/rat, but lots of explosions happen for the bass guys down here running mice, so it's hard to ignore.

While I'd suggest I'm no longer a "newbie" I'm still far from being as experienced as many here, but with that said for-the-life-of-me I don't get why some guys wonder about the hooking percentage of a spinnerbait. I find no need whatsoever to run a trailer hook with a Nutbuster and rarely (I can't even think of more than one time in the last five years) do I miss fish on a spinnerbait. One easy to sharpen hook to drive into the fishes mouth with little chance of the fish finding leverage to throw it.

Edit: I really appreciate Landry's response as well. Thanks...I'm gonna have to give that a shot as well.
