| hello all, i have a 2001 Ranger Cherokee 117 boat with a 75hp Mercury motor and just purchased a Mercury 9.9 tiller 4stroke for it. does anyone know the best way to add a this kicker motor to the fuel line. would i T off the main fuel line of the main motor with the kicker having its own fuel line primer bulb and line? or is there a way to tie it in to the main gas tank if Ranger put a fitting in for that? i appreciate any input on this! |

| Best way is to add a water separator to the main line, and then run a separate line and bulb to each motor.
My guess is this is a 2 stroke 75HP? Carbed? Those don't idle so smooth, are noisy, and drink a lot of fuel. |

I had a 9.8hp kicker on my last boat with a 75, too. Dunno where he is from but we have some waters around here in IL that have a strict rule about 10hp only. Can't even have the main motor in the water once you get away from the courtesy docks. |

| I just installed a 8hp kicker on my tiller boat with a 90 hp. Strictly for the backup. After talking to the Merc people. I elected to keep it hooked to it's remote tank and store it in the splash well. The Merc tech stated that check valves needed to be installed on each line when T ing off the main tank to prevent syphoning from the other motor. This also gives me the option to take the kicker off and put it on a smaller row boat. |

I used to think that but I'd rather go faster than 'no wake' speed...besides, wouldn't trolling for musky actually be above no wake speeds??? |

Location: minocqua, wi. | so, if you are adding a kicker ... my suggestion from experience is to tie it into the main tank (4-stroke or not) for convenience of 1. not having the extra tank cluttering up space and 2. not having "stale" gas from intermittent use of the kicker. i tied mine into the main fuel line (2-stroke) and installed a separate "oiler" and glad i did. with the steering arm and main-line fuel and oiler it's there when i need it and convenient.

| I know this is a lttle off the subject but it is important for you to know. I own a Ranger 681VS Fisherman with a 135hp Optimax on it. I have talked to the engineers at Ranger about a kicker for my boat and they don't recommend anything over a 6hp. Exceeding this would put to much weight on the transom. Just don't want you to run into any problems. Not that you can't do it just keep in mind how much weight your
transom can handle. Might want to call Ranger. |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | I don't think bass boats are meant to have kickers....I would really seek a professional's advice on whether it is even possible and how good of an idea it is. As mentioned, a lot of boats are setup for certain weights in the back and you could throw everything awol by doing something it is not meant for...

| That Cherokee is based on the Crestliner 1750 hull. It's a deep V, not a bass boat. I know lots of guys with the C'Liner that have 9.9 kickers.
What make and year 6HP kicker is Ranger. The Merc Pro-kicker weighs 96 lbs. A new Merc 6HP weighs 57 lbs. That's less than 40 lbs. Older 6HP outboards could weigh as much or more than the ProKicker. |

Isn't the 117 the "luxury jonboat" style bass boat not a deep V. I think you'd need a panther style mounting bracket just to lift it out of the water when you're cruising with the big motor |

| You are correct. I was thinking of the 217. If going with a real kicker, a Panther static bracket would probably get the motor high enough when on plane. |

| hey guys thanks for all the information. Steve at outdoors first just reset my account- i havent used it in quite a few years so this is Eric. after talking with Ranger boats they have told me i should not add any kicker to this boat because of possible damage to the transom of my boat (they didnt design it for a kicker motor). they also said it would always list to one side. what a bummer! i think i am going to sell outright as this motor is new in the box with a receipt or i might save it for a smaller boat for the Illinois 10hp limit lakes. |
