| The other day, I was helping my brother clean out his garage when I noticed his old Shakespeare President 1980 baitcaster. I was surprised that he still had it, so I told him I was going to have it cleaned up and the drag washers replaced and basically bring it out of retirement. Hard to believe it today, but Shakespeare made a top of the line baitcaster with their President series over 30 years ago. Us Abu guys have always bragged about our old reels that our still in service today, but I don't hear from the guys who use the other brands. I was watching an old Simply Fishing video from 1991 and saw Bob Mehsikomer using what looked like a Shimano Bantam 50. Did some research and it seemed like a beast of a reel. So for the guys who use the "other brands", here's your chance to brag and let's us know what classic's you got!!! |

Location: Denmark | Don't owe any classics apart from my first Ambassduer 5000, and a Daiwa Millionaire that i bought in 1980. I remember both the President, and the Bantam, both are great reels. I think the President came in two versions, one with brass bushings, and the more expensive version with ball bearings. |
