When I tighten the drag on my winch it gets difficult to reel. Anyone know what causes this and how to fix?

I'm curious also, as I have a similar issue if the drag is tightened down very tight.

You guys need to pose that question to Richard Schmitz (a.k.a. Pikemaster). He's our official guru for reel problems on this website (see top of tackle and equipment section).

did this start after you took the drag washers out to clean them? It's happened to me the other day and I accidentally put one of the pieces in backwards but it was an easy fix

I haven't had this with the winch, but I had an Abu that did this to me several years ago. The metal washer with the little tabs on it was not seated properly in the recessed side of the main drive gear. This can happen during assembly if you turn the reel handle-side-down before you have it screwed back together. It can also happen if you drink too much beer while you are working on your reels.

Naw, really???

EA, have you ever used your beer instead of reel oil to lube your reel's internals????? And if so, did your reel have a really bad morning the next day?

I'd be lying if I told you that beer.had never accidentally found its way into a reel or two. So far the only thing I've noticed with that is that you had best hold your reel in your downwind hand the next morning! They seem to work okay, but they do get cranky. Cranky... get it?
