Hee hee heeee...another round of buttermilk for the tykes! You boys need to sit around the radio and listen closely to the old southern spiritual "Nobody knows...the trouble I've seen"...back in the old days...sorry, almost dozed off in me rocker![::)] I took the IQ test back in '69...scored around 120 or a little better best I remember, but I was still dumber than a jack-o-lantern; never could get all those cells aimed in the same directions...common sense will roll over book sense, as will experience and a will to do what it takes; these attributes are learned, both through many mistakes/failures, and there are no short cuts. A hen w/out a head is still a chicken, but if you want to eat the chicken, you gotta be willing to put forth the effort to make it right; get hungry enough, the job seems easier. Now gather 'round grasshoppers, while I share some mo..... [:sun:]

Buddy, if the Huggies crowd can still make it come July, I'd be happy to share a boat seat with you. Drop me an e-mail when the time gets closer. If I recall, the original outing that Sir Slamr was refering to in his original post was planned for a trip to Pelican Lake. As is the case for this trip, lots of interest was shown initially, but as the time approached, so did the excuses. I believe Slamr was the last one to bail, and I spent the day fishing against myself. Talk is fun, but cheap. Let's see who will be there when it's show time!

WOW just looked over all the friendly rippin. Sponge you come up with some good ones, Jim its all in fun, Slamr you started it and its a great thread, good job and to everyone else lets have some harmless fun with this thread. Remember becarefull how you talk because I think the age is going to change. Count all the people that are entering this free for all and then find the middle, that will be the cutoff. Jim you are safe being on the younger team but someone 37 to 40 might go eather way. I am 41 and will be 42 by this event so I am on the old guys side. I have out fished lots of people younger than me and see it late in every tournament, its not your age its your attitude and confidence. I see it in the PMTT and other tournaments, late in the day, people just going through the motions to finish out the day, one handed figure eights or none at all. Don't think for a minute that because your under 30 you can out fish a guy over 40. Yes its harder to fish all day once you get older but I think the learning curve is shorter for the more experenced fishermen. I think the best thing that is going to come out of this is friendships, lots of good sticks getting together for a punishing day on the water then having a few beers with each other and getting to know each other better. Let the rippin begin!!! You snot nosed whippersnappers are going to get your but whooped by a bunch of old guys!!!!!!!!![]

Ok, now that were all getting along. I will spill the beans. Sponger My IQ according to the test is a 144 so I guess that makes me smart, but doesnt mean I cant be dumb either.... But In the end I guessed at a lot of them so I may be dumber.

A word of advice I'll add to Mikes...LIFE will teach you more in a year than you will learn in 4 years of college, plus grad. school; being able to survive in any type setting is paramount to intelligence...facing the storm will leave you battered, but better to be standing and beaten than turn your back and not being able to see what's coming...enough for now...I must rest.... Enough with this being nice to each other crud. Makes me want to vomit. Nothing worse than your sworn enemy trying to be nice to you. I am still pissed that the date was changed so that Shep and I can't make it. Jimmy K. with a 144 IQ you would think that you would realize that there is a difference between NO meaning something in the negative and KNOW which means you actually KNOW something. Oops, just sort of answered my own remark. Slamr taught you all he knows and you still don't know nothin'. LOL
Maybe we can't make it this year Shep, but this sounds a lot like it's going to be an ongoing, yearly event. Could be that we can make it next year. Oh my god! What will happen if this becomes an annual event? When the diaper brigade starts to age a little we may have to accept them into "our generation" what a revolting development that would be. We may have to keep moving the age upwards just to keep those young pups off our team. []

As the sun rises in the east, so does the battle continue...actually, it is snowing here, schools are closed, and I must home school not only the miniature sponge, but others here also.
lesson#1- remember my Juniors, though the storm clouds surround you, their presence does not prevent the sun from coming up, nor going down...
lesson#2- the time to start the fire is before the rain begins...
I'll share this ancient fable, then go do something else...
Spring had sprung, the days were getting warm, and creatures great and small were rejoicing in the newness of life...a grasshopper sat at the base of a tree playing a fiddle and tapping 3 of his legs...about that time, here comes an ant dragging a piece of food behind him. As the ant neared the grasshopper, he stopped playing the fiddle and said "Hey dude, set down that heavy load, rest awhile and enjoy this beautiful weather!" But the ant, huffing and puffing, continued on his way saying "I'd love to Mr. Hopper, but winter is coming and I have to make sure there is enough to eat when it gets cold again"...the grasshopper chuckled, rolled his eyes, and began to play the fiddle again, dancing a jig around and around the tree. This went on all summer long; the ant, sucking wind, dragging food back and forth everyday...the hopper, singing, fiddling, and dancing from dawn to dusk...not a care in the world....UNTIL...one morning the grasshopper woke up shivering; the sky was angry that day my friends, the wind began to howl, and a cold pelting rain began to slam into the insect, numbing his thorax...as he shivered and attempted to warm himself w/ what was left of his tattered jacket, he cursed the day of his birth, and thought about all the fun he'd had that summer...sitting on a park bench, he thought to himself, don't you walk away uneasy... suddenly he remembered the ant, his warm home and all the food he must have stored up! Dragging his fiddle, he stumbled into the cold, biting wind, shivering, shaking, and daggone near a state of hypothermia! As he reached the ant hill, he beat frantically on the door; inside he could see a warm fire and piles of picnic particles and tiny containers of water...gazing up, he saw an ant head peeking out a window...the grasshopper yelled "Hey dude, remember me?" "Kinda" replied the ant...aren't you the one who sat around all summer playing grab butt?" "Yeah" said the hopper, "could I come in and warm up some, and maybe get something to eat?" "No way dude", replied the ant, sadness filling his heart; "I only have enough to get me family and I through the winter"...slowly he closed the window...the grasshopper, weeping bitterly, wandered aimlessly into the chilly woodline......

*Get out that mental pick/axe and re-read the above...I added some current wording in order that the younger folks would more easily understand this riveting tale....
*-Finish the fable in your own words, and ponder these questions:
1-What traits did each insect possess?
2-Which of these traits applies to you?
3-Was the ant wrong to turn the grasshopper away, or should he have allowed him in, even at the risk of his family starving at a later date?
4-Do you think the grasshopper, IF he survived, learned a lesson?

Holy balls, sorry, but I just went through and read and noticed a major typo on my last post. Its 134 not 144, so all you people who now think I am a genius IM NOT.......

M1 the reason I type no instead of know is because I hate to type, not because of intelligence...

I have no clue what my IQ is so I have nothing to support this hypothesis, but quite frankly I seriously doubt that a muskie is going to feed on a grasshopper, ant or even a nightcrawler for that matter. I do know however that come the sacred day of this young v old, while us younguns are dining on Mac and Cheese and slurping from our juice boxes, the old farts will be choking down great big plates of crow.

Zach,

Are you going to pull crawler rigs?

Hey Slamr....We better get the paramedics on standby for this one, the old timmers might need it when it reaches 95 degrees, flam calm on (pavement hot) water.

And OOOOOOOOH...does it get HOT!

I think all the guys have blinders on and have lost it all together. There is no way and I repeat NO WAY that they will beat the old timers. Way too much experience, common sense and no how to compete against. Yes there are some very good young sticks and they will catch a few but in the end the old timers will be standing tall and proud as the pups go home with there tails between there legs.

How long a drive from Butternut to Petenwell? Could I get in an hour or two if I left Butternut at say 4:30 pm? I would like to get in onthis if even for justa little while.

NormAL...in your youthful exuberance, it is obvious that you failed to re-read the fable; feeding tactics pertaining to fish were not mentioned...may I suggest that you turn off Nickelodeon, read the fable again, then ponder the true meaning of the lessons provided you, free of charge...those lessons were posted for YOUR benefit to better enable you to understand a variety of issues that our youth face today. For extra credit, can you identify 2 phrases in the fable, what song they came from, and who sang them? Now lets get started! [:sun:]

Man, I'm sooooooooooooooo confused[:0]

If the event is held on July 12th (one week before my birthday) then I'm 38, if it's later then I will be 39, let's get this together so I know where I stand!!!!!!!![:blackeye:]

Not that I want to trash talk anyone here[:halo:]

By the way, I think you "ALL" SUCK A$$[]

OOPS, did I say that[]

Tsk tsk Ralphie...by utilizing the term "ALL" in the suckage comment, you have included both YOUNG and OLD, which answers your own question of where you stand, and right now that be ALONE...you have ostrasized both age groups; my diagnosis falls into the catagory of "pre mid life crisis", a staging area for those who have the desire to remain young, but at the same time realize that they are gaining in age...symptoms include indecision, lashing out at others, curling up in a ball at stop lights, and consuming large quantities of Jiffy Pop. I still carry the vestige of this common malady, and still have no idea of who I am; which ain't so bad either, as looking for meself gives me something to do![:sun:]
