| An old timer once told me that a sprinkle is good but a down pour will turn muskies right off. Personally if I am already out there fishing I keep fishing until the thunder and lightning starts. I do not mind a little rain but even with top quality rain-wear it is miserable after an hour in a down pour. I have never had much action when it is pouring. Right before and sometimes after the action usually picks up. And seems like this year every time I get ready to head out a storm will begin to rumble. Just looking for opinions and comments.  |

| I can remember one musky that I caught during a rain event and one musky that I caught while it was snowing. A buddy of mine caught his PB during a hard downpour.
I can also remember multiple days when I have fished from daylight to dark with it raining most of the day and not even having a visible follow in. It may just be me, but if I catch one during a steady rain, it seems like it is the exception rather than the rule. |

| I can't remember having had much luck in a hard downpour, but light to moderate rain is another story.
Snow is definitely another story. Especially when it's early fall. Have had a number of good outings under those conditions and the most action-packed afternoon we ever had was a 3-4 hour window during an early October snow squall...near whiteout conditions with snow coming sideways...boated 11 good fish in that short timeframe. Not sure we'll ever duplicate that. |

| I caught my personal best in light rain. I love fishing for ski's when its drizzling. For some reason I always have better action. |

Location: New Berlin,Wisconsin,53151 | My PB trolling was during a heavy storm. Super warm rain in June the fish (which I guess was Sheps) hit a 10" Jake. I would rather not fish in it, if I had a choice.

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Bruce I call that fish "your fish" because Shep, I and others couldn't get her to eat. You did. I had multiple chances on her, so did a number of my clients. But you caught her. I thought we were going to die out there in that lightning storm releasing her. Nice job Netman Bruce.
As for fishing in the rain:Take advantage of mild to moderate rain when you can. Magic happens under these conditions. Now if it is thunder and lightning I am off the water and waiting it out. Fish seem to drop and get negative in bad conditions. Rain can be light to heavy as long as the skys stay quiet. Once it gets loud and crazy the fish freak out some. |

| I have never caught a fish in a heavy downpour. Caught them before it started, during light rain, as the rain was slowing down, after it was over, and in between periods of heavy rain. If it's pouring hard, I don't even bother to cast. |

I think it all depends on what the barometer is doing at that time your out there. I remember a time my wife and I were on North twin, in a full blown downpour, I was throwing a :)headbanger. My wife's comment was...Can it rain any harder??? I said, here comes one, a 47" ER hit in a full blown downpour. Just yesterday, 7/25/13, My wife and I had about 8 fronts come through in a 10 hour period. Full blown downpours, winds, and some lightning...in and out of storms all day, raised 20, boated 7. I think only one spot we fished did not have a musky on it!!! Can't catch them on the couch!!!  JD |

Location: PA | My results have been about the same as most others that have commented so far. Before rain, after rain, light rain I have had success. Fished many days in downpours and pop-up downpours and can count the number of fish caught during them on one hand. |

| When they are hungry they bite, rain, sun, cloudy, snow, wind, etc. High pressure, low pressure, moon phase, and who is to say when they get hungry thats alot of speculation. |

Location: Northern IL | Heres my opinion, The guideline says: fish move better, (within our reach, depth) under a "stable" weather and water condition.
If the water conditions are good "stable" It takes generally 3 days of stable weather to see a good movement by the mass of fish " school" ha ha, towards the shallows. These movements will generally be short, the youngest fish are more apt to move shallower than the larger fish.
We must keep track of the weather patters to give ourselves the best chance and even then we must control our depth, speed and size on the structure situation the fish are using at the time.
An activity period can occur at any time in a 24 hr period, rain or shine.
A lot of fish are caught in a down pour, but a whole lot more are missed because its not fun to fish in the rain.

| I saw the biggest US musky I've ever seen and had multiple follows from other fish during a real bad rainstorm on Lake Tomahawk. I'll never forget that. I got off work early and decided to head out and this was near fall around 2:30pm. It was a long haul to where I was going and I stayed in that spot and drifted it over and over and over again - They were coming hot on a cisco weagle and the big one turned so fast she drenched me as I noticed I was on top of the bar at 4ft. Coolest afternoon on the water! It was ALSO one of the wettest times I recall out pounding |
