I know they list it as 7ft center bow storage but I'm curious just how long of a rod the locker will infact hold since they tend to rate length less than what it will actually fit.

This wont directly help you because I dont have the same boat, but I have an alumacraft and find the "ratings" close to accurate at least for the lower spots. The top ones I think could get an extra couple inches, but in my experience they are pretty dang close to advertised.
Assuming you have the front deck rod locker.

I was looking at a Competitor 185 and wondering the same thing. It says the center rod locker will hold 4- 8 footers and 4- 6 1/2 footers, with the starboard locker holding 5- 7 1/2 foot rods. I am curious to know if you could pop the caps on the tubes to get an extra 6-8" out of the center rod locker, or more out of the side locker too. Anyone have this boat, or any insight?

I have a 165 Competitor and I have 6'9 and 6'10 Muskie rods and they fit. Just for kicks, I just went into the garage and tried my 7'0 spinning rod and it fit as well, with maybe 1-2 inches to spare at most (meaning a 7'2 rod "may" fit).

I will say though, that I don't think the rods go "straight" in. I think they will run into the curvature of the bow for the last 3-4 inches and I think there is some slight flex to the blanks near the tip when they are stored. I haven't broken out the tape to factually measure this (so take it for what it's worth!), I'm just going by how it feels when I put them in to store. I keep mine in rod socks and they don't bind or stick at all and I haven't noticed any issues with scratching or anything like that.

Obviously with two piece rods the length is a complete non-issue. I don't think you'd be popping end caps off to gain more space though!

Just a quick update . . .

I got a 7'1 bass rod for my birthday and it fits with about an inch to spare. I shone a flashlight up into the rod tubes to take a closer look and it looks like there is a solid piece of flat plastic that lines the bottom of each tube that goes in and up at a slight angle to guide the rods into the tubes in an upwards direction. The blanks will flex VERY slightly when going in the tubes, but they look to be supported the entire length of the rod (looks like the solid plastic piece runs all the way up).

I think a 7'1 rod with a sock is all I would attempt.
