Posts: 61 Location: Wisconsin | I've seen a lot of hurt fish with them. Get a good jaw spreader, knipex, long needle nose pliers, and good gloves instead. Imo.

Posts: 532 | Every fish runs the chance of getting hurt any time it is caught. I have seen boga hurt fish, I have seen pliers hurt fish, I have seen people pull sections of gill out of the fishs head, just by gilling the fish incorrectly with their hand... It is very useful and when used properly will minimize the chance of YOU getting hurt. The problem is people do not always use it responsibly, and every fish that comes to the boat does not always need to be put on the boga, the same can be said for a net... If you are looking at getting one do not cheap out get the boga brand.

Posts: 555 Location: Tennessee | I'm quite fond of mine and there's been a couple situations that I couldn't use/carry a net and luckily I had my Boga there to save the day.

Posts: 83 Location: minnesota | I use mine all the time on small pike that nail muskie baits but only use it on muskie to keep my hands clear while unhooking (if necessary). Never use it to lift or move the fish though

Posts: 311 Location: Lake St.Clair | I use them here and there they come in handy for the pike catchs. Try not to use them on the skis but they come in very helpful and get the fish back to the water faster for me. Never had a fish get hurt from a pair or at least not that I saw. Then again I dont lift the fish with the grips in so maybe thats why.

Posts: 41 Location: PA | I consider the Boga Grip a very important tool on my guide trips and everyday musky fishing. I use it to safely hand fish to clients for photos. We land many fish without netting them because of the Boga. The Boga is a great way to safely handle fish while cutting hooks. I cut and replace most hooks and I cringe when I watch people reach into a net with pliers to rip hooks out of a fish. Harmful to the fish and dangerous for the fisherman. Nets can do more damage to fish than any other landing method. Many of the cheaper knockoff landing tools I have seen people use and I have tried should be outlawed in my opinion. No perfect way to handle muskies but the real Boga grips can be a great safe tool.

Posts: 1023 | I use the boga to control the head and quickly get hooks out while the fish is in the net. I never lift the fish with it. It reduces my release time and keeps my hands safe. If used in this way it is an excellent tool. To make a universal statement like "they hurt fish" is generally untrue. They can and will hurt fish if used to lift heavier specimens. Landry

| Hey there tip up----Bogas are not a good idea when handling muskies. They can easily cause a great deal of damage. Bogas were designed to land fish for table fare. They were not meant to be a release tool. Hope this helps----Jobu | |||

Posts: 291 Location: Madison, WI | I use it to stabilize the head of the fish in the net. Never lift the fish with it. Keeps the fish steady so fish does less damage to itself thrashing in the net. Is MUCH safer than trying to stabilize the fish under the gills with your hand when there are hooks either in the fishes mouth or on the side of the mouth. Once hooks are clear, fish gets lifted out by hand. Much safer for small pike as well.

Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | I got one for a x-mas gift last year. I was like many who thought they destroy fish. I totally agree they shouldn’t be used for vertical holds or lifting the fish out of the net. However, I have not found anything that works better on small pike. My god are they handy. Snag the bottom lip with the boga and no more squirmy slimer to worry about. So nice.
