| In your opinion what is the best bulldawg reel? |

| Most reels will be fine. The best? I would say the Abu Garcia Toro HS or Naci reels in 6.4:1 gear ratio. I would think the other competitor Shimano products (such as the Tranx) would also be top suggestions. There is not a whole lot of "drag" IMO to bulldawgs. If you are pumping or ripping the bait, the rod is doing most of the work, with the reel taking in slack (the quicker the better). Even on a straight retrieve, my Abu 5500 holds up fine with no noticeable "grind" to the reel or feeling like the reel is struggling.
Bottom line: you will absolutely hate having a slow reel on a rubber set-up. You will have to reel like hell to take in any slack if you are working the bait anything faster than a twitch. The more slack you have out, the less of a chance you have on getting a quick and good hookset. |

Location: Minnesota | I am a Shimano guy all the way. there are others but Shimano is what I use. I had a 700 TE liked it but then I bought the Shimano Tranx HG great reel line pick up is what you want and the Tranx HG has fast line pick up.The only thing I did not like a bought the Tranx was the price tag. |

| Not that I believe that the either of my Tranx (PG or HG) are the "Second Coming" by any means, however I have to agree with MH47 the HG is a dream for Bulldawgs, the quick line pick is great for working them shallow and deep and keeps the tension so that you actually have time to feel the hit and react. |

| I picked up a shimano trinadad 16na a few months before the tranx was available. I love it for large rubber but hate the price tag. Mag dawgs n smaller rubber I use a abu toro |

| Thanks for all the suggestions guys. The only problem is im a lefty..lol. Any suggestions for lefties? I can't find any high speed reels for lefties. |

The NaCI's in the 50 & 60 are offered in the lefty version, but only in the 5.4:1, not the 6.4:1. As far as I know from the other Shimano guys out here as well, the highly recommended Tranx is only offered in right, no lefties as of now even though people are really pushing for it.
If you are interested in a round reel, the Abu 5600 is offered in the lefty version (5601) in a 6.3:1 ratio. |

I just started taking my niece musky fishing last year she is a lefty.she could use my right handed reels but she did have problems so I bought her a 401 te to use .That might be the way to go it don't have the pick up like the Tranx but the TE is a solid reel. look around people do sell 401 here just keep your eyes open. |

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | The NaCl is an awesome reel. Contact pikemaster and see if you bought a lefty 5.4:1 I bet he could put the 6.4:1 hs gears in it for you. I love my hs models for rubber. |

Location: Hayward, WI | For a dedicated rubber reel a faster line pickup would be nice. With that said, I'm running all Okuma Induron or Isis reels with a standard gear ratio - I think 5.1:1. It does take some cranking when ripping rubber hard, but I don't have an issue keeping up or not feeling fish hit.
If looking for something specific I'm sure the other guys above have it right. If you just want to have al all purpose reel that works for most anything, anything in the 400 sizes of Okuma, Shimano, etc. would still get you by.
