My brother in-law and I were talking about if we could use 1 bait what would it be and he mentioned a double 8 with 1 black and 1 white skirt. I told him I wasn't aware of anyone that made a double 8 with two skirts and he said why not? This got me wondering, why aren't there two skirts on a double 8?

All of my bucktails including my Dominatrix double 8s have two skirts. I think a lot of the D8 brands out there have two skirts.

hmm, maybe I'm getting the wrong ones, none of the ones I have seem to be as full as my DCG.

I'll have to look when I get home but the ones Adam made for me are at least 2 I'm pretty sure.. here's a picture of the Orange black combo. Very excited to throw them if I ever get a break from work!

Yeah that thing looks a lot fuller then the double 8's that I have, looks like I'll be changing brands.

I asked a bucktail maker that puts one skirt on his double 9's why they use one vs two and their response was that the 8's and 9's don't flare two skirts as well as one skirt. That might be why more double 8's use just one skirt.

Interesting, something to keep in mind I guess.

Adam (muskieunderground) is the only company that I know of that ties the marabou and tinsel nice and full, and i mean FULL. The Marabou baits are SICK! he also makes Deer hair bucktails as well. But They are hands down some of the nicest baits I own. I only throw two types of bucktails now. The ones Adam makes for me, and the ones I make for myself.

Depending on the design, too much skirt and you can kill the action/flare as well. All depends on how close the blades are and their shape as to how they suck the skirts up. While I do sell double 8s and want you to buy mine :), they are easy to make too. Fun to make and catch a fish on a bucktail you make yourself. www.mooreslures.com has about anything you need to make a few for your tackle box and you will save a few bucks too. If you have kids, its also a good way to get them involved with your fishing hobby.
