Posts: 77 | Some of the fish are spawning right now and I'd assume there will be a few that are still spawning due to the late thaw. I think it'd definitely be worth the trip up that weekend because many of the fish will be recovering from the spawn and starting to feed. Just my two cents.

Posts: 77 | Some of the shallower bays are at 50 degrees and rising on the surface today. Main lake temps are 38-42 degrees on the northwest side of the flowage. I've seen 20-25 fish in the past couple days cruising the warmer water on the shoreline of the smaller bays. I've seen 5 or 6 pairs already spawning. Opener should be a good time for a crack at some freshly spawned out and hungry fish.

Posts: 7 | Hey everyone, I will be heading up to the Chip from June 8th to the 15th, and will be staying at Muskie Tales resort on the East side of the flowage. I was hoping to find out some information about how the action has been lately, what type of structure the fish are holding on, any hot colors, or any other useful information. I've never been to the Chip before, and I'm sure many will mention hiring a guide for a day. I don't plan on hiring a guide for the trip, and enjoy trying to pattern the fish myself. I'm not looking for anyone's hot spots or anything like that, just trying to speed up the learning curve a little. Thank you in advance for any help. Feel free to PM me if you like

Posts: 371 Location: Dixon, IL | I never fish Chippewa Flowage but hear about it for many years! I suggest to buy Fishing Hotspots Chippewa Flowage map! I believe that many muskies might be finish spawn and you should find them not far from spawning area, bays, and shallow close to deep water. That's what I would start for the first day!

Posts: 7 | Thanks for the replies guys. I have been checking Ty's reports, as well as pretty much any other information I can get my hands on. ILmuskie- I already have the hot spots map and have a pretty good idea of what I'd like to do. I was thinking pretty much the same thing as you with the spawning bays and deep water access. If anyone else has any information they'd be willing to share I'd love to hear it. Only a few more days...

Posts: 548 Location: MN | Try areas other than what the map says are muskie spots. If it looks good fish it. The east side will keep you busy all week not to mention the west side. Good Luck Nick

Posts: 518 Location: Cave Run Lake KY. | Musky Tail Resort is an excellent spot to start out learning the flowage. Don't over look the west fork up river from musky Tail, specially in the spring, fish as far up stream as you can. down stream take a lunch and fish all day. The north and east end of Moores Bay put's out a big fish now and then the same with Sherman bay. follow Cranberry Creek narrows south past a secret XX spot I call the double Axx hole every time I fish it my hair stands on end. hit all the flats on cranberry from shermon bay down to cranberry lake. this should take you a few days, past that is bigger water from the Cedar Swamp over to Knuckle buster and the sticks also Wagon wheel and Yankee Joe Creek. All this should get you started on a lifetime of learning the Flowage. Good Fishing to you Marv.

Posts: 99 | Stop in at Indian Trail Resort. John sells a map with all of the bars and hot spots in the area. Not sure if he sels it to everyone or just guests. I think he only charges $5.00. Raised 4 fish and caught a nice 45" last fall using his map. Sure saved a lot of time trying to learn the area. You will love fishing the Chip!! We have 2 weeks booked at Indian Trail again this September. Hate to wish the summer away but I can't wait. Good luck. FYI, Buy a Lakemaster chip for Wisconsin. Shows great detail as to where to fish and may save you a lower unit!!

Posts: 691 Location: nationwide | If you get a map stop at D&B bait and tackle and buy the lakemaster one. It is the best map of the flowage there is hands down. Corey Meyer

Posts: 706 Location: Richland Center, WI. | Anyone fishing the Chip this week? I will be heading up on the 22nd looking for musky. Sounds like there is quite the bug hatch going on. How will this affect the fishing? I am guessing the topwater bite might be good but we shall see! Ken

Posts: 56 Location: Stanley, WI | I'll be there this weekend for an annual camping trip. I will definitely be trying some topwater, but the way my season has been going, I am just not in a position to make any statements about what the hot pattern will be ![]()
