I have to go to Woodstock, ON for a few days for work this September (early September), and just realized how close it is to LSC. I may book an extra day or two, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions on a good guide to book in the area?

I have been out on the Canadian side with Jon Bondy and he is a GREAT guide. Good luck and make sure the guide you hire is legally licensed.

Woodie is correct, the guides are only allowed to cross the boarder while on the lake and can not touch soil on the other side without a work permit. So that means that all my clients most travel to the Michigan side and all Jon and Bobs clients must cross into canada. Either of Bob D or Bondy are both very good and you will enjoy either one. If you decide to cross the boarder then give me a call.

So you can guide on CAN waters so long as you launch from US and don't touch land on the CAN side?

so what happens if your on the canadian side and snag up on a dock or launch one on top of the seawall? my guess is the internet consequences could be astronomical!

I would think if you launched from one country and fished in the other countries waters you had better have the other countries fishing liscence as well as what ever papers that would normally be required to cross the border.

I've fished with Spencer twice last year and caught huge fish both times. It's not just that's he knows where the fish are, it's that he makes a better muskie fisherman out of you. Listening to him has taken my game to a new level. He's a lot of fun to be around too!

jon fishes the river mainly.
as for guides the deal travelling from the u.s. side the capt is responsible for call in immigration. if a client has a felony, the group may not be allowed in. as for return to u.s. soil i am unsure of requiements.. as a regular fisherman... licence call immigration...get a call in number...if you anchor your considered as landing upon canadian soil.
9-11 brought these issues upon us.
i have never heard of osama musky fishing...oh ya he,s history.

Thanks guys. On a funny side note I have always charged the national going rate for a guide trip, and I have to laugh now when I look at my first brochures from 19 years ago when I was charging $250 for 8 hours. No wonder I just about starved to death. Everything is relative I guess. As for the border issues...5 different agents, 5 different answers....Good fishin'. Jon Bondy

Here is a nice 'river' fish from today. 51 1/2" chunk caught jigging a black/orange Bondy. This was his first musky ever so he was pumped. Went 3 for 4 today and quit at 1pm.

White bass are thick but I try to not use a pearl or white because I think the whites go after it because they way they spawn is a bunch of males surround females and 'negotiate' in the open water, sometimes near the surface. They seem to leave the other colors alone most of the time...

Pretty sure Hulbert had the best numbers last year on St. Clair. If you want to catch a big one I'd hire Mike.

On the Canadian side Jon Bondy would be my first choice but you need to book early as his dates fill up quick.

On Michigan side: http://www.castinstclair.com/Home.html

Can't go wrong with Bondy on the Canadian side. If you go on the American side, make sure your guide is fully licenesed and operating legally. Some are, some aren't...

Does anyone know if the MI DNR lists the guides that are legally licensed and passed all inspections for the US side? I have tried to find this online and I have not been able to find it. Any help would be appreciated.

I think the only legal Michigan guides for casting Muskie on US side is Spencer, Hulburt, Kevin Long and Doug Samsal. These are the guys I'm familiar with and are full-time guides. They all catch fish and are usually on the water everyday.
