I fish the Madison Chain of Lakes for musky. I throw topwater every once in awhile but for only a very short amount of time. Is it worth throwing topwater in such pressured lakes?

Posts: 147 Location: Northern New Jersey | yes it is worth it. our "lakes" here in new jersey that have musky in them are very small (<100 acres) and see a huge amount of pressure. topwaters catch em, and catch em often.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | i fish pressured water (boat traffic mostly) almost exclusively and find no issue with presentation/bait methods working or not working as a result ... it's more a "when" thing and i've found it best at night.

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Some of my best top water areas are very close to the major launch on area lakes I fish. Muskies and other game fish know injured food is around launches. They are not shy about smashing top water baits in these areas. Top water shines from 63 to 70 degrees in my opinion. If water temps are in that range I'm tossing top water even if the area is pressured. Most pressured water fish adapt to it. Pressure effects the fishermen more than the fish in my opinion. Just fish and enjoy the action.

We used to stay at a resort on Little Arbor Vitae and one of the better top water bites was minutes after a boat motored past. We would throw our surface baits into the boats wake and had a lot of strikes and hook ups. The boats seemed to attract them instead of scaring them.

Many guys here (and elsewhere) troll with less than 10 ft of line out in the prop wash. If the motoring prop does injure bait, it would certainly disorient the bait. So yes, do fish high traffic areas.
