| I just heard on the news this morning that the Wisconsin DNR is looking at raising the hunting/fishing licence fees up $5 to $10.

| I think that I am like everyone else, I do not want to pay anymore than I have to for the privelege of fishing in the great state of WI. However, the amount we currently pay is very small in comparison to entertainment value that we get out of catching fish. If more $$$ is needed to help the resource than that is allright with me, I can pay my fair share. The only thing that bothers me is that the $$$ may go somewhere else in the grand scheme of things. We have all heard of the great budget deficit we are facing. Could this be a way to make up some of that money? If the increase in fees is true, the timing is slightly suspicious to me. I am all for better fisheries & facilities. I do not approve of using the sportmen and women for just another source of revenue to make up $$$ spent poorly in other areas. Could be a cut back in DNR funding and the shortfall has to be up somewhere. Would be a bum deal if this is the case. I hope that if fees increase, services do also. |

| The fee increases, according to the new DNR Secretary, will be applied the the actual shortage the DNR faces in the coming year.
During an interview yesterday on Public radio, there was commentary made the State workforce is going to be trimmed by as many as 10,000. Sounds great until one is waiting in line at the DMV, trying to get an answer to a State related question, or trying to access a state service. The budget is directly connected to the economy, which as everyone knows is suffering a strange business cycle downturn worsened by tidings of war, corporate scandal, and other social issues.
This too shall pass, but the belt tightening is going to suck. |

| Problem is though, that once the economy picks up, and the State budget is back under control, the rates won't go back down. I am surprised at the tough line taken by Jim Doyle. I think he's doing the right thing with regards to the economy, for the most part. Still too much fat and redundnacy in the UW system.
License fees going up $5-$10 isn't too hard to take. Wait til you go to renew your vehicle registration. I heard it was going to double! Wow, my truck will be like $134?! ouch |

| Anything going to happen to non-resident fishing licenses? Thanks, Al[] |

|
| Musky Alan,
I thought I heard they were going to raise non-resident licences to $1000 and charge another $1000 for a toll for anyone crossing the state line with a boat with out of state tags. LOL
Just kidding, I think they too might go up, but only a couple of bucks.[:p] |

| The state of wisconsin has a terrible problem with fishing liscenses in my opinion. It took me and my dad over a half hour to sign all the crap and cost $52for two liscenses. It would be more if it wasn't a family liscense. And, the lisenses would cost more if it wasn't a family liscense. Whereas if you live in wisconsin its less than $15 I believe and doens't take forever to sign up. My Illinois liscense was $13 and there is a lot less people buying the liscenses. |

| I'm with muskyone.
As long as the extra fees go to the benefit of the outdoorsmen/women, I'm up for it.

| The Patron's license is going up $30!
Doyle showed where his heart is with the DNR when he announced his cabinet selections. In spite of all of the clamor about deficits, all of Doyle's cabinet appointments are getting raises over the amounts which the positions got in the past administration, except for the DNR head who got a reduction!
One of Doyle's big election points was rediculing the past Governor for using the State airplane. After months of hearing about that over and over, Doyle FLEW on the same plane to 3 cities to make his cabinet announcements instead of just having a press conference from Madison! [:(]
The numbers of field agents and wardens are down from the combination of retirees and positions left vacant. There will not be any added in 2003 either because the moneies for warden training have been withdrawn from the budget completely. |
