Yesterday I decided to embark on my first solo musky trip. I ended up boating my new pb. And man was it intense netting this beast while fighting it. A nice thick iL 45"!

congrats Scot! A 45 is nice fish anywhere! In Illinois, it is a trophy fish. Way to go!
Have you filled out a creel card?

How's the bite doing on evergreen? Not to hijack a thread or anything but I'm curious? Beautiful fish btw! There is nothing better than landing a nice ski on your own!

I went on my first solo musky excursion yesterday too. Struggled to find a boat mate on mothers day. Didn't hook any, but raised a mid 30's fish to get the heart going.

I was also in IL as I live on the IA/IL border.

Nice fish, great job on the picture solo. I spent about 15 minutes before I started fishing trying to figure out how I'd get a pic if I landed one.

Phishmasta,
That doesn't look like an Evergreen fish. I'm going to guess Lake Calton or Banner.

That is why you didnt land one! Never fails, if im prepared for a pic, netting, etc.
i never catch one..

even better if you forget the camera at home!!

The best way to get a pic if you're by yourself is get a small tripod and put your camera on a two shot timer. This will take two shots ten seconds apart giving you plenty of time to get a shot. Just find a spot to set the camera up on and find where you need to stand prior to catching a fish. Also if you have a nicer camera you could get a hand held clicker. Hope this helps. BTW nice fish!

I fish alone all the time. I like to have my release tools and net within an arms reach. I use a Downeaster rod holder to put the net in,works exremely well! If I want a pic, there is usually someone around that will take it.

Congrads om the PB, nice pic. I also fish alone all the time. My first priority is to have high quality mini-bolt cutters within a one-handed reach at all times. I made a velcro holder set up and keep the cutters sprayed down with WD40. They are always within reach and always ready. One hand grab, that's the big deal, because sooner or later you will find yourself hooked to a bait that is hooked to a fish. Either you cut off the hook(s) in the fish or cut off the hook(s) that are in your hand/arm. Either way, you need instand access, with your free hand, to the cutters.
