I like to muskie fish some rivers during the year to mix things up. Just trying to get some info on the Wisconsin River in the Merrill area. What is it like as far as, Slow and deep or boulders? What would you use for a boat? Jon boat or drift boat? Never been on it and just loking for info.

I am also interested in the area. I know of people who have luck in the Lake Alexander part of the river just north of Merrill. Can't personally shed much light on the area myself, but Mike Keyes has an awesome epsiode on the upper WI river, which I believe he says is somewhere in the Brokaw / Merrill area. He was fishing out of a large custom canoe, if that speaks at all towards the river structure for the area.

The river from the Merrill dam to Brokaw is very skinny in most parts with a few holes being the exception. Depending on water levels and time of year we used to put the jon boat in and then drop the truck and trailer down near Brokaw at 4x gravel pit becuase once you went down you couldn't/wouldn't want to try and motor back up the river. The absolute best way to fish it is with a jet drive jonny. It's a great stretch of river but gets a ton of fishing.

that stretch is shallow for the most part and in the fall it can get sketchy. it does hold some nice fish, but also can be numbers of mid size fish (low to mid 30's). Always a chance for a monster, it is the wisconsin river

I fish it regularly. Depending on water levels, you may have to get out and push here or there. Kurt Schultz is a great guide that pounds it pretty regularly. There is usually quite a few people hitting it on weekends.
