| In that most of our lures that we cast dont really go that deep ,,, do you think that Flat black color would give off a better silhouette to muskies looking upward ?? ,,, possibly better than a gloss black that would tend to reflect light rather than absorb light like a Flat color ,,,, not just black ,,, a flat color paint in general --- might be a good thing for shallow crankbaits ,, top water lures and bucktail blades ?? ---- just thinkin out loud here -------- ?????? ------------ jimjimjim
PS --- noticed that Suick offers a Flat Black color pattern -----

| Not sure if its a better silhouette but I will tell you that flat black does catch fish. I have used flat black on cranks and blades with decent success. |

Nope, you're wrong.
Black does absorb all wavelengths, while white reflects them. And a glossy finish does make a difference on radiant energy reflected vs. absorbed. |

i think you need to recheck your facts.
black absorbs everything,light,heat and all colors while white reflects light,heat and all colors. this is a fact not my opinion.

Black absorbs and does not reflect the color spectrum. That's what I was trying to say. I had it right in my mind, just phrased it wrong. I was using what we see as synonymous with absorb/reflect. White is the opposite as it shows (we see) all colors in the spectrum. Flat black or glossy still abosorbs the spectrum and we see it as black. Thats' what I meant by black is black. Gloss will provide a bit of flash, but that is a property of the finish, not the color.

Location: Hayward, WI | I'm not an expert on colors and what they mean, but my theory would be flat colors vs gloss won't make a difference. I'm sure both would catch fish, and we'd likely be hard pressed to see a difference in the catch rate with either.
With that said, I would probably typically prefer a gloss finish hoping it may offer a little more flash in the water.

Be sure to rig it with thru-wire construction!  My friend has often said we could catch a muskie on a barn door hinge.
Maybe that should be the challenge in 2013. Let's have a contest to see who can intentionally catch a muskie on the most unusual lure. Could be interesting. |

The real question is how to rig it, and if it still counts as catching a musky on a hot dog if you put #10 blades in front of it. As far as rigging it? I'm thinking a simple wire with a loop on both ends. Attach a hook on one end and your leader on the other. If I really want to get creative I guess I could add a second hook in the center. Hmm. How does one properly weight a hot dog? And how do you know which side is up? Do you twitch it or work it on the surface?
Crap, it's a good thing they come in packages of 8. This may be more complicated than I originally thought!

My dad tried carp fishing with a weedless corn dog, didn't catch anything.
I have a bunch of flat black Suicks that are all beat up, great color. |
