Posts: 865 | Always seem to have my Bucktails all over the place, and do not have a tackle box with room to fit them in.. I have a small fiberglass boat that has little to no storage. 8 1/2' rod locker on one side, One rear seat with 6 Vertical plano boxes for my Xlg trolling lures, and a small bow casting area with No underside storage. Anyone have any ideas on making something for carrying these small (mepps sized) to large Double 10 sized tails around. I have been keeping them in Plano Boxes but looking for another idea. Thanks Mike

Posts: 151 Location: West of the metro, MN | Before my just encase, I used to keep all my bucktails in a 7 gallon pais with lid. I used a cut-off wheel to put verticals slots in the side of the pail. A row of slots 16-18" for the bottom for cowgirls and supers. And another near the top for smaller tails. Worked great. But it earned the nick-name "Chinese finger trap of death"

It's a low cost system for carting the bucktails around and allowing them to air dry properly. If you do a search on this site with the title "milk crate" you'll probably find a wealth of information plus pictures on the subject. As for the smaller Mepps, etc, I simply screw in some cup (open eye type) hooks to the down spout and hang the smaller baits off of them thereby making them easy to get to. You can also just as easily insert their hooks between the downspouts and they will also be secure using that method.

Posts: 865 | Thanks Guys they both sound like they would work ok but I really have no room on this little boat for a Bucket or a Milk Create, was trying to come up with something much smaller. Need it for like 8 Double 10 Cowgirls and a dozen Larger Mepps.

Posts: 833 | Plano 3700 with 4 slots. If you alternate the direction you are laying down your baits, you can fit 16 DCG in one box or 8 Super Models. If space if your issue, then this is the solution IMO. I'm able to store most of my bucktails in 2 boxes this way, which I stow in my rod locker. The drawback to this method is that if you want to get at the bottom bucktail in a slot stacked 4 deep, you may have to do some untangling which can be minorly annoying. IMO, the space save is worth the occaisional untangle process. Most of the time I have 2-3 that I really have confidence in and the rest are more situational colors depending on the conditions I'm fishing, so it doesn't happen too often. The space save keeps my deck clean, and that to me is gold.

Posts: 833 | The holes are nice, good score! This is just me, but I'd would probably still let the bucktails dry before putting them back in the box. Especially if you have maribou baits.
