Those of you that have it what are your thoughts. I love the idea of the cruise control feature but would like some real world feed back. How fast does it compensate for a wind gust?

I love my ipilot and wouldn't be without it. I have the first generation and it does awesome in steady wind. Gusts it depends on how strong and frequent they are. It will vary a little then kicks in faster. No different than if you were running it only faster because it doesn't have till your reeled in or turn up the speed it does it all for you. As far as staying on course it only varies a few feet.

Cruise control works better in wind gusts when you're moving faster. I love mine

I like mine, but I only mostly use the AutoPilot feature. Spot Lock does work pretty well. The biggest issue I have with it is using the AutoPilot is more of a zig-zag than a straight line. It eventually corrects itself, but it's not uncommon to get 90* off the heading before it corrects itself. I've seen two other boats that have the same problem. It gets you there and it's a nice feature, just a little frustrating sometimes.

The biggest thing I'd add is that it's a very nice tool to have; not a replacement for proper boat control.

Esoxfly nails it. The key thing to think about with the iPilot is how will you cast and handle the remote at the same time? IMO, you will not. The remote costs you casts and your boat control is far less fluid when trying to work very specific spots. The Footpedal is just a superior tool in this regard. Also, despite all the technology, when wind shows up, good old fashioned boat control is still king.

That being said, I love mine. The autopilot, when working long edges is great, it makes boat control easier. (but, not a substitute) Spot Lock is awesome when processing a fish. Once sucker season starts, the Ipilot starts coming into it's own, at least where you only get one line. I've actually used my iPilot to figure 8 a 20" minnow, which ultimatly put a nice fish in the boat last fall.

One thing that is overlooked with this motor is that it has many applications outside of musky fishing. If you walleye fish in MN using jigs and or lindy rigs, it is simply the best thing since sliced bread. So if you do some of that other stuff before shifting to musky, then the motor really shines.
