I’m in the process of rebuilding a 2000 Tuffy Rampage. Since I have already invested in a new motor, big tiller handle, and the new titan hydraulic system, I figure I might as well get all new electronics and be done. I have removed and sold a bunch of the electronics and will be getting new ones. Here is a question for you those out there. The boat is a tiller, on most tiller boat the electronics are setup on the left side of the boat. I’m setting up this tiller to run in Canada where I need constant view of GPS and to be able to reach over zoom in and out to avoid rocks. Has anybody ever mounted there electronics on the right side of tiller boat? I’m either getting a the big hummingbird 1198 or the HDS10 and am thinking of mounting it on the big ram swing mount within reach of the driver tiller seat. This way when driving I can be facing the front looking down at the GPS, and when fishing I can swing it so that I can view it from my fishing position in the back of the boat. I’m used to working the boat from the back and on my console boat I don’t find it to be a hassle looking at the GPS on the console. I’m just wondering if anybody has any thoughts of going against the grain and mounting it on the right.

I have an 898 mounted on the port side of my ranger 680t with that ram mount. I can reach it while driving and can swing it around and see it while fishing upnfront.

I just put a mount like that on the port side of my 1760gt. Great mount. Not sure it will swing enough for you if you mount it starboard and be able to reach it easy. I have to lean forward a bit to change mine while running. Does the rampage have the wider side tank style layout? I put the vertical style swing arm on the front. That style seems to put the graph higher in the air. I have only had my boat out twice with the new graphs and mounts so that might just be a perception so far. Might work well if you could mount the vertical style to the gunnel or the side tanks on the starboard side. Just a thought.

May want to do a search on here also. I think someone rigged up an X-190T with the graph on the starboard.

I drove my tiller facing forward, and I mounted my 1197 on the edge of the starboard side tank ... it sat just in front of my right knee when I was driving the boat. There was enough room on the side tank to scoot your feet between the 1197 and the gunnel if you were walking that side of the boat. I used the 2.5" ram ball mount and simply screwed the base into the top of the deck. I also could have put the base on the sidewall if I had wanted to. The arm mount you posted the picture of would work well, too. In any case, it was a great setup for me. I went to a console this year, but really liked the way my old tiller was set up.
