I have several reels that I would like to work on myself, and I would like to order some worm gears, washers, prowls (spelling) and what ever is needed to recondition the drag systems, clickers and gears. Are there kits for the C4 Ambassadeur reels?

The thing that get damaged on a C4 is the clutch arm and worn out are the pawl, worm gear, and drag washers. Unless you got sand and grit inside the reel, the main and pinion gears should be fine. You can make your own parts list by going to www.abu-garcia.com and looking at the reel schematics to pick out your reel parts (making sure that you match the numbers on the reel foot with the schematics) and ordering them. You really don't need to replace everything. I would also tear it apart to see what you really need before ordering. I ordered parts a couple of weeks ago from Spirit Lake IA on Wed morning and they were here by noon Friday. Great service!!!

How do you determine what the model number is? I know I have a few 6501C3 but I also have the same size in red that are say trophy collection on the side. They are exactly the same size, but there is several model numbers listes as follows.
(01 00)
(01 03)
(01 04) - All the way to (15 00)

This is confusing...

Thanks!

Those number are on the reel foot. Take the reel off the rod and flip it over and there are your numbers.

1st look for the reel model, On my reel its a C4
6501C4

Then the number on the reel foot
See 1st pic

This number on my 6501C4 is (see 2nd pic)
The number is 0901 12/21

So you look for 0901 in 6501C4 schematics and you'll find it here

Discovered that the brass is soft.. Anyone need parts?

Note to self: Reel repair is an Art, for people that can work with small components!

Let me guess, you forgot that on the 6501s, the threads are reversed on the nut holding the crank handle on?

No, but I used a pair of pliers to tighten down the tension because a giant sucker would make a run for it last fall. That did some damage...

I also discovered that drinking beer and working with tiny parts is not a good idea for me..
