Glad you asked! I've been thinking about expanding; I've insured me boss for the last 12 years, that his every waking moment in my presence will be intense, provocative + mind expanding until the day he crawls shaking + spent out the dock doors! [:0] [:sun:]

I purchased guiding insurance that covers both the boat and liability from Woller-Anger & Company out of Elm Grove, Wisconsin. They had the cheapest rates and were great to work with. The phone number there is 262-789-2500, and ask for Christine Lee.

You'll need "commercial" insurance if you're gonna guide. This insurance should cover you for all your needs (tournament fishing, guiding, or just pleasure fishing). But check with the policy holder for all details.

I've found that BoatUS has about the best insurance for non-guiding fishermen. Just got to www.boatus.com

If you want to guide, here are two of the best insurance companies for that type of coverage:

Try Windsor Mount Joy: (717) 733-8648

Or

Black Adar is another top company: (800) 292-0092

Hope this helps. I've had to do some of this research too....I might be an "offical guide" this year....don't want to be breakig any rules.

Insurance cost will depend on the waters that you fish, months that your on the water and the type and hp of your rig.Group Insurance rates are usualy the way to get the best price.I get mine by Group Rates negociated by the N.P.A.A..A few things to remember to ask,(1)Are my clients Insured walking from their car to the dock and into the boat,(2)Will the Insurance cover if dammage happens while attached to your tow vehicle if your vehicle plates are not commercial,(3)Do I need to have pictures on file with the Insurance Co. of my operating equipment to get paid incase of a loss.(4)Do you offer fixed amount Insurance coverage incase of loss so I don't get prorated to the point of not getting much,(4)Is my boat covered if someone besides my self is behind the wheel during an acident,(5) Is there a layup period where the boat is not covered when used on the water.(6) Is there a discount for taking a Safe Boating Class,(7)Higher Medical coverage rider and most important of all(8)How much Un-Insurance /Under-Insurance coverage can I carry and the cost, for those times that it is the other guy's falt and he has no Insurance, usualy very low cost.

Mike,

I've had the NPAA program for the past 2 seasons..seemed competetive, I'll be interested to hear what you find out.

NPAA membership is $125/yr.
The insurance is another $700 for base package. It covers tourny's and guiding, 500k in liability and up to 30k in boat coverage. You can buy additional medical and tackle coverage from there.

Best,

Curly
