| Just wondering if there are any reasons other than not having to refill them that the AGMs are better... Are they stronger? Last longer, work better in the cold etc??
Pretty much looking at the farm and fleet duration batteries.. But they're twice the price of the regular ones..
Thoughts??

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I run an AGM as my starting battery. It has more cranking amps and I've never had a problem with them running dry while nightfishing all night with lights and screens on. If you're running an opti big block you need 1000 cranking amps and theirs is one of the few that has it in the smaller size. |

Location: Contrarian Island | i have the durations in my up north boat...I will be switching out my 7 yr old Trojan AGMs in my Ranger for the Durations this spring as they are getting weaker, how many guys are running 7 yr old wet cells and putting 300-600 hours on them a year?
..here's my take on AGM's vs Wet Cell batteries. I've always run AGM's the last 7 yrs..they rock...last all day pulling around my Ranger in big wind, never ever need to worry about filling them up/ checking them, having them in sub freezing temps...it's a piece of mind thing for me... most of the guys i know that put in the hours i do on the water each year w regular flooded cell batteries seem to go thru them every 2-3 yrs...so yah, maybe they are 2 x as much but maybe they last twice as long.... again, when i go on a trip the last thing i want is to worry about filling up batteries or them going bad....I've been happy w the Durations.... they do go on sale from time to time.

Location: Eastern Ontario | Can AGM batteries be run on thrir side I want to switch to a 24 volt trolling motor from a 12 volt. I would be able to fit 2 batteries under the front deck on their sides but do not have the height to place them upright? |

Location: Hudson,WI | Yes, They are sealed. So they can be mounted in any position.
I never use to run AGM's but after running them last year, I'll never go back to the wet cell batteries. They're well worth the extra money!! |

I would never consider a wet cell battery for my boat either, the convenience and longevity represents good value. It will only hurt once…

The biggest reason is that they are much less prone to damage from vibration and impact. |

| So BN... Where are your batteries in the ranger? I'm assuming they're in one of the back compartments? Probably passanger side..?
Do 31s fit in there, or are you using the 27s? Are 27s enough on a 24 volt in that boat..?
Sorry, got the same boat now, so you're probably the one to ask..

Location: Contrarian Island | they are in the back battery compartment, it runs across the entire back...i have 2, 31s, and a 27 for starting..i think there was some fanaggling to get them in there but Gervasi Marine got em in there....

What kind of Ranger do you have?
I have a 618VS, and the battery compartment runs the entire length of the back of my boat too. I was going to upgrade to the AGM 30 from Cabela's, but I wasn't sure if they would fit. The trolling batteries sit in front of each other not side by side. The last guy the owned the boat devided the compartment into 3 sections, with the left side holding the starting battery, the right side holds the trolling batteries, and the middle is a storage space. |

Location: Racine, Wi | Definitely go with the AGMs. No hassle, put and go batteries. Like Brad, put a TON of hours on mine and zero issues. I just used the Cabela's brand as I had some gift cards and coupons so got them at a great price, and will do it again when I need new ones. Much better than running out of battery at night or in the fall with the wet cells. |

| My batteries are in the same spot, but I don't have that rear compartment, only the side decks in mine.. There's a homemade casting deck about the size of your battery compartment over the top of them, but you can see them under the deck..
Thinking I might move them to a side compartment..

Depends on the charger. Dual pros, yes. New minn kotas, yes, but you need to change battery type selection on each bank to agm setting. |

Location: Lake St. Clair | I have 3 AGM's in my boat. Best batteries ive ever used. They last forever and with the minnkota 3 bank charger, it is a great combo. They are expensive, but well worth it. i am running a 36V torrova 101 and can get 2-3 full days out of them without charging. The MinnKota 3 bank charger is great and has them fully juiced back up quick and efficiently. I give 2 thumbs up for both! |
