What do you do in the offseason to plan for this?

There is nothing worse then after day one of your BIG trip, sitting back and saying...."I wish I would have done something, before I came here"[;)]

The first thing I do is find a peep asleep on the city bus, then "borrow" a credit card...once I get home, I practice their signature...after ordering all new stuff and have it sent to a bogus P.O. box, I pack all me stuff and hide it at a friends house...the night before the trip, I pack all the stuff...just before I leave, I tell Spongette I'm going to pick up a newspaper...before I return, I sell the stuff...then, about 10 miles from home, I exit the truck, run full speed face first into a jack pine, then when home I stumble through the door babbling incoherently...as she rushes down the steps, I thrust a wad of cash into her out stretched hands and tell her I'm going to lay down for awhile...once she gets the $$$, nothing else is ever said...works for me![:sun:]

I am a savant when it comes to vacations. I have amASSed 5 file cabinet drawers full of resort brochures, sorted by state/area and province/area. Even at that it's amazing how hard it is to find resorts on some lakes when you know they exist. Many you just hear about word of mouth, they are not listed with a chamber of commerce and a phone directory won't tell you what lake they are on. Kind of like a lake X there are many resort X's out there too.

Planning a trip to vermillion and most likely the flambeau flowage for a week. Labor day on high lake, not sure about memorial day, thinking of something new for that weekend.

I was planning a few trips next year, one in early June for a week at Pigeon and maybe making the Can-Am on Chatauqua in September. Due to my surgerie(s) this winter money will be a little tight. But I do have the best muskie waters in my backyard so all is not wasted. :-) Just will have to venture a few miles out ether way to find new and different waters to fish here and there. [:sun:]

Just the other night I scanned through Dick's book again with my favorite lake map in hand. Marked up a few more spots I must explore next trip.

My big trip is gonna be the MF Sab Bay excusrsion. Mauser has me studying four video tapes, 2 from In-Fishermen and two with Bob Mehsikomer. Bob boats and releases a 56" fish on one of the tapes, I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it! Good coaching on the type of structure, too. Lindner has one scene where it looks like a submarine following his bait. I've e-mailed Tony to get a Frabill net for me, it is obvious the tools I have are inadequate for this setting! Anyone had any experience with Frabill's folding net? Looks like it would fit my rod locker ok.
I also built a lure holder out of one foot sections of vinyl downspout. I can get 3 down and 8 across in my lure locker in the Gambler. That should be ready in time for the Cave Run trip. Best wishes to all. m[]
