I'm heading up for the first time with my boys the week after musky opener. Any help on how to fish for them this time of the year?
thanks

I fish late July early August every year up there. Did one trip right after opener. It was an early spring year and we found a lot of fish on rock structures. Looking like a later spring this year so I would start with cabbage bays and work your way out. Little sand and roughrock have plenty of nice bays to check. Adjacent points should be worth a look as well. If your boys just want action fish any new cabbage up on big sand. Lots of quality pike to be had with Muskies still available. I feel pike tend to dominate the weeds on big sand though.

Are you familiar with the river system at all? Feel free to pm if you are looking for more info.

I feel the water south of the railroad bridge is as good or better than north. Not sure about early season but there are plenty of areas with good potential. Adventuring up the MacFarlane or black sturgeon might be fun and rewarding. The bays on the east side of the big stretch might be good early too. Your boys might enjoy a trip through the dalles as well. There are quite a few bays just upstream from there. No shortage of water that's for sure!

Thanks for the good info, I'm starting to get my maps out to figure out all these locations and get a lay of the land. Also, would anyone have a view on how it is to troll at this time of year in this body of water?
