I was looking at a 2000 Yamaha 100 hP 4 stroke seems to work OK but the hour meter indicates 854 hours is this excessive what would be considered to high.

My 2001 60 HP Suzuki only has just over 300 but the boat has mostly been used for casting.

As long as it has been maintained that is not many hours. Take a look at the saltwater guys on the hull truth. Many guides logging on a couple thousand hours on motors before they need any real money invested.

Thanks thats pretty much what the dealer said. He said he had a comercial fisherman with over 3000 hours and only a timing belt for good measure with the old one still looking good

Really not that many hours on a four stroke. Especialy if it was mostly trolling hours at low rpms
