Does anyone know/has anyone fished north of the Dayton Dam on the fox. I know there are a few creek mouths down there but I dont know the average depth. I know depth in rivers changes all the time, but on average is it deep enough/worth it to put in a flat bottom jon down there and cast around? Thanks

mike, its a great stretch with a couple spots as deep as 20 feet. a lot deeper than where you and i fished. average depth without doing any math from the launch to up passed the trailer park to the north is probably around 4-5 feet. i've never seen another boat down there

just south of the launch it starts getting real shallow. same goes for up just passed the little island by the trailer park. you are pretty much restricted to this area... but it is a very big area... miles.

just a note... the boat launch is privately owned and is pretty much a mixture of mud and sand. you still have the same jon boat? did you put a gas motor on it? would be a tough call to go there without one.... especially with a MASSIVE dam not to far downstream

Ok, thanks for the info, extremely helpful and generous! Youre talking about the area right by the lake holiday creek right and I think I know the launch your talking about it. Same boat, trolling and gas motor but easily comes on and off.

The Lake Holiday creek is Somonauk. I went there once, but after my on foot encounter with an Emu attached to an extremely long chain, I never went back. Looks really good though. Good depth in the creek itself, but the river is fairly shallow at the mouth and not very "fish-able" if the water is above normal.

The creek that comes in down where you are talking about is Indian, which comes from Lake Shabbona. They take out canoes at the mouth and have the shoreline clear of brush and trees, but it would be difficult to launch. Since you have the same boat, sounds like you should be able to put in pretty much anywhere if you had someone to help you carry it. I really didn't enjoy loading that thing by myself!

The boat launch is father downstream. Its more of a slow tapering shoreline in a parking lot actually. No man made boat launch. I don't know of any good boat launches south of Carpentersville besides the one in Silver Springs. I've only launched in three places and one wasn't even a boat launch... just looked like a good spot to back in and get the boat off the trailer.

Oh my god....you gotta elaborate more on the story about your encounter with an Emu on a really long chain! I just envisioned you being chased down the bank with all of your gear in hand and a giant bird hot on your trail.

I launch in yorkville Tuesday. Had to back the jimmy so far into the river that I almost had water coming in the doors. That was launching a 14' flatbottom too. Fished from 4am-3pm didn't see a fish. Covered from the dam down maybe two miles. On the way out I stopped and anchored by the dam to toss some jigs and jerkbaits for walleye. Caught 3 flatheads in 15 minutes on 3" gulp minnows before I lost all my weedless jigs, 25lb 15lb and a 12lb. Ill be out tommorow morning to hopefully get my first fox river musky and if not I've got plenty of weedless jigs for the cats
