Posts: 246 Location: Grand Marais, MN | I have two cardiffs, and although nobody would say they are the best at anything, they are reliable, great value, and get the job done. I really like em, even got a calcutta power handle on one and pull 10's with it sometimes. I dont own a BCX, but I have used one on a friend's boat, nothing nice about it compared to a cardiff. I would definitely pay 120 for a new cardiff rather than 60 for a BCX. Better yet, find a good deal on a used calcutta 400b before the season starts. Pat

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | I've seen quite a few calcutta b's some curado 300e's and a few revo toros for around 150 and they were new on ebay lately. I've got 4 different toros and love them I sold my calcutta after my first toro. Would highly recomend watching closely for one should be able to get one got plenty of time till opener.

Posts: 427 | The BCX cast a mile but is not very durable. It is not really built for taking the abuse that we dish out chasing muskies. My old man has a cardiff, has not had it long but likes it so far, it seems like a much better made reel than the BCX.

Hold your thumb on the spool while pushing in the lever and cast. You would get used to that in a handful of casts. I would not make the lever release vs. the button your determining factor. A button is certainly a little nicer but by no means is the lever hard to use.

Posts: 287 Location: Oconomowoc, WI | If you want new, get a Cardiff. As a few others stated your best bet would be to buy used Calcutta b or maybe a Luna. The reels in the 250 range when new just hold up better to the abuse of Muskie fishing.

Posts: 339 Location: Denmark | If you are on a budget, I would not consider C3 or C4, not even a rocket. The Inshore classic has all you need, double paddled power handle plus Steel Pinoin, and even Dual anti reverse. This reel is a classic, but made for power fishing. In Europe you can get it, with a higher gearing, and a thumb bar, called ABU Predator. It cast better than all Shimanos I have tried, and has a better stock drag(Carbon Matrix) Attachments ---------------- picicast2008purefishing05.jpg (74KB - 455 downloads)
