Location: Sussex, NJ | Hey guys i want to get into trolling this year and wanna pick up some planer boards. Since ill be a rookie to it I dont wanna get anything complicated or expensive. Just want a simple but effective board. Let me know your opinions on which boards I should look at. Looking to pick up about 3 or 4. All help is appreciated guys thank you! |

Location: Eastern Ontario | I have the Church TX44 boards and they will pull 10 inch Believers or Jakes as well as Depthraiders and smaller lures. Used my buddys TX22's and they worked just as well and were easier to retrive. |

Location: South East Wisconsin | Off Shore boards equipped with OR-18 and OR-16 clips. Never tried the #5 Stay Lock Snap on the back, what’s the advantage? I’m afraid with all the sliding the board would do it would fry the line. |

Location: WI | The advantage is not having to use 2 releases so you can take the board off faster to net a fish. I was going to do this, but a #5 snap would slide over my leader to the bait (unless there's a bead above the leader). I don't want the board to knock the lure out of the fish. This season I'll try a #4 snap.
OR18's are the way to go. Don't even waste time with the other clips unless you like trolling around trying to find your lost boards. |

| how much line do you normally let out before attaching the planer boards?
im also new to this and would like to use planer boards trolling at LSC this year |

You are talking about the OR-18 snapper release right? With the adjustable tension? |

Depends on how deep you want your baits to run. Sorry to simplify it, but it is that simple. You can run a Depth Raider 5' behind a board to keep it shallow, or back a ways to get it down. I've found they're a great tool for depth control, especially when you don't want your baits close to the boat, or only 5-10' behind it (like a flat line) to keep them running shallow.
