With the sudden boom of the new 9'+ rods, I'm sure I'm not the only one who still has a few 7.5' musky rods laying around. Do you guys still use your smaller rods? If so, for what? I myself mostly use it for walk the dog topwaters and trolling.

I give my "better" shorter rods away to kids interested in our addiction. My other shorter rods collect dust in my garage rafters.

You bet, i still use shorter rods, use a 7 ft for small bucktails and spinnerbaits and minnowbaits 6'3" for smaller gliders. there will always be a spot for shorter rods

The only rod I have less than 9' is for throwing bass sized baits. I use a flippin' stick in either 7'6" or 8' depending on my mood.

to me shorter rods seem to be better for netting fish when fishing alone

I agree that shorter rods are easier when fishing and netting alone. I use my top n tail 90 percent of the time. Hardly ever use a rod under 8' though.

I do a lot of fishing from shore and wading, also from a small jon boat or canoe... For me 8 foot is as long as I will go. Anything longer gets to be cumbersome, especially for jerkbaits. I don't fish any baits larger than a mag dawg either so really don't need the extra length.

Also I surf fished pretty hard for many years, and honestly just got tired of fishing 9.5 ft + rods... I can see how a 9 ft would be nice for figure 8s if you fish from a large boat with a high deck, but that is not my style of fishing... So I'll stick with the shorter lighter rods, until my wife buys me my ranger 620!

I am getting a LOT of calls for 7' and 7'6" rods. I just starting production on new 7' and 7'6" rods with 14" handles. Also making 8'6" rods with 16" handles vs the 9' rods with 18" handles TI carries. You might be surprised as to how many guys want rods under 8’ still. I still love my 9’ rods and if I get a little more time to actually fish I may have Jeremy with Tuscarora tackle make me a 9’6” on one of my TI blanks. FYI-Jeremy will be at the MN show and my rods will be there too so stop by the booths and see what we have. I think Jeremy will have a 10’ rod in his booth too! My stock 7’6” thru 9’ rods (single piece and telescopic) will also be at the show in MN. Thsi weekend we will have about 100 rods at the Wausau show so stop by and take a look if you are close.

I have been moving back towards my 7'6" and 7'2" rods the past couple years. I have a use for the 8'6" but find myself using it less. My boat is low to water, I am low to the water and those long rods cause me problems netting fish by myself. Just uncomfortable to me.
