| I have a 2013 Ranger 621 with a Yamaha 300. Im thinking of adding a kicker this season. What size kicker would be best? |

Location: 31 | I bought my 2008 621 used with a Yamaha T-8 and it did not have enough power to troll muskies on big water into the wind so I upgraded almost immediately to the T-9.9. There is plenty of power/control for me with 3 in the boat, and unless you want to troll faster than 5 miles an hour, the T-9.9 will easily do the job (I'm an avid troller).
I know some people are advocating a 15 (I have no experience with them), but could see where the motor would not be working as hard to deliver the same performance.

| I think the T9.9 would work just fine! I have one on my boat!

| I found that the kickers really need a different prop to get good speed. The standard prop is for slow trolling with great thrust and control. Not so great for speed. Even the 9.9 ProKicker on my 1890 was wide open to get above 3.5 MPH. You can get a lower pitched prop to get some more speed at less than WOT. Just my thoughts. |

Location: 31 | Good point on the prop and having to run the motor near wide open, that was the main reason I upgraded to the T-9 .9. The T-8 that came with the boat was generally able to maintain speed, but it was also really working hard and therefore pretty noisy, even for a four stroke. The power and control are obviously better with the T-9.9, but having it running quieter was also important to me.
I'm not sure if a new T-8 is available anymore, or if they offer the 15 hp model with a helm remote like Merc anyway, so there might not be a choice.
