What is your opinion for your best chance at a Metro Giant? Im going to go against the grain and say Waconia. I say this because it has a large population of sheephead to get munched on. What does everyone else think?

Most, if not all of the metro musky lakes have 50+" class fish in them. Last year the top fish for the North Metro Muskies Inc. Chapter was a 53" out of Calhoun. There are bigger fish in metro waters as well, they've been posted on this board and elsewhere. Metro fish may not compete with the Cisco fed fatties, but there is a legitimate shot at a beast on most waters. Just have to go out and put your time in, they are there.

Tonka. Longest Metro fish I've seen in 55.5 but skinny.

The Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies Inc purchased 1,200 muskie fingerlings and almost 300 yearlings that the DNR stocked in Minnetonka last fall. We plan to purchase fish again this year to stock there.

Minnetonka and one more lake that shall remain nameless. This summer I saw an absolute BEAST follow a buddies bait out there.

Well the DNR guy RR who had a big hand in creating the metro muskie fisherie always said that if there was a metro fish that might be of gigantic proportions he would pick 'Waconia' because of All the fat juicy Sheepsheads to be the lake to produce it.
I wouldnt rule out the St Croix with all its forage

What is a giant for metro waters?
I would agree with Brad P that every lake likely has 50" fish (pure strain)...but, numbers will vary. I would say it ultimately comes down to the size of the fishery. Bigger, deeper lakes will have more places for more fish to hide and grow larger. So, Minnetonka or the St. Croix.

Agree with OP, Waconia has the monsters still

This last fall I had a mid 40lb fish follow up my bait on Waconia, the fish still haunts my dreams...

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt the St. Croix. It has a very large forage base!!
