Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | Sam Ubl - 2/8/2013 4:08 PM You know you got it bad when you find yourself doing figure eights in your soup, oatmeal, cereal... ---------- Or midway through the off season, you find yourself filling up the tub with your favorite lures at your side and a ice fishing rod in hand. And when the tub is full enough you start working the lure in the water. AND THEN you know it's really bad when your wife walks in, smiles at you, asks you a question and leaves, as if nothing was wrong. Even though she jsut walked into a bathroom where a grown man is mumbling to himself about musky fishng and playing with the lures he has used 1,000,000,000 times before like they were brand spankin new. All of this while sober I may add. Or you think to yourself. "well my new suick needs to soak for a little while" "so maybe I'll just fill the tub, toss it in there and wait". But then again I could try this new crank that I just bought... hmmmmm. "hunny, will you fill up the tub please"?????

Posts: 3867 | I was once an addict. Now I'm not. (lie) Like you, I first lost control. Toward the end of what my family refers to as "Rick's muskie blackout", I came to my senses and realised I had.... * asked Rollie and Helens' daughter to marry me ("No.") * 2 boats * 12 fine muskie rod/reel set-ups * 400+ muskie lures including many gifts from custom guys * more straight wire, braided wire, flouro, snaps, swivels, replacement hooks, etc., than BPS carries * 4,000 extra miles on my truck * one visit to the ER to remove a big hook, and * friends who are Republicans "Buy the ticket, take the ride."* * $5 to the first PM that knows who wrote that line.

Posts: 271 Location: davis,IL | Well.... Muskie fishing can be like pulling teeth for some ( painfull doing it, proud when you show the pulled tooth). I have a couple friends like that ( you know, the I could be fishin walleyes type). Thats where you seperate the men from the boys. Real men enjoy the brutal effects (and aches) of casting big baits for seemingly days on end, for that elusive "follow up". Truthfully though, Muskies are like no other fish I have chased, and I've been at it for over 30 years. It truely is a mindset, the water, the weather (from high sun to snow), the company who you share your boat with. There is nothing quite like it.......I fish with my father...... years ago he told a story. In his youthfull years, he read about the big game hunters in Africa, at the turn of the 20th century. On safari, they hunted the most elusive and dangerous beasts the bush had to offer. He equated our trips in a similar manner, we hunt, but do not kill. The prey must swim off for the hunt to be successful, thankfully we have both enjoyed the fruits of our labors. Edited by muskydope 2/9/2013 3:15 AM

Posts: 96 | I am from Iowa as well. The 2 biggest problems I have is: our DNR here have no intention of trying to make trophy muskie waters so the population density is so small its hard to catch them here unless you live close an can fish everyday. Problem 2 is I have been at it for 6 years now and am in over $40,000.00 on tackle and boat stuff and still have not caught my first one. I caught the addiction and have had zero success of my own. I have taken two people out that have caught their first muskies though.
