Posts: 537 Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | While these two rods look similar on paper , I'm looking for opinions on both. I already have a premier h, sling blade , big dawg, and a h predator. I'm looking for something for smaller , lighter baits. Main question being: is the top n tail really worth double the money as the mojo? Are the handles the same? Where the rod is made is not an issue to me as I have obviously spent plenty of money supporting US made products. Also , I'm only interested on opinions of these two rods. (While I'm sure they are fine products, I'm not buying TI) Thanks in advance

Posts: 981 | mojos have smaller foregrips than the new LTs, are lighter (by how much im not exactly sure), and have the fuji k guides. Im not sure what the difference is in the handle length though? Im sure you can find a used top n tail for reasonable money

Posts: 501 Location: S.Wisconsin | I use a top n tail with a curado 300 for my topwaters and small tails along with small twitch baits and I absolutely love this setup. That said I used a mojo last year for a day when I didnt have the rod with me for twitch baits and was quite impressed. I don't think you could go wrong with either one

Posts: 668 Location: Wisconsin | I have a Mojo rod and like it, but the "feel" of the Top N Tail is the reason it is my go to rod. I use it the vast majority of the time. I reach for it first everytime.

Posts: 142 | I have a premier 80mhf which I would presume is comparable to the top-n-tail. I really really like the way the rod loads up. I well be getting a top n tail as soon as I find a good enough deal. I haven't used a mojo so I can't speak for it.

Since you're considering the St. Croix LT Top N' Tail, you might want to look at the LT Long Ranger(8'6" MH) as well. I have never used a Mojo 8' MH, but it's the exact same blank as an 8' MH Premier. I do own an LT Top N' Tail with a Calcutta 400B. I use it for smaller applications such as 1 to 1 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits, smaller minnowbaits, double 8 bucktails or smaller, and topwater prop baits. It is a really great rod!

Posts: 375 | in the croix legend catagory my favorite for what you are looking to use it for isn't even in the muskie line-up. it's the TBC710HF bass swimbait rod...7'10"...rated for 1-4oz baits...weighs only 5.5oz compared to the top n tail's 7.7oz. it handles up to db 8's, down to 3/4oz minnowbaits, jigs, the list goes on and on...with a curado 301, 50lb pp super slick and 40-90lb 49 strand wire on it talk about a light weight combination that handles a wide range of baits, this is it..

Posts: 537 Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | Thanks for the input. The bass swim bait rod is one i thought of as well, but I'm thinking the handle will be too short for me. Not a big deal, but would add a little to the price, to have it extended. I'm not worried about weight as this will be my lightest combo by far. The long ranger is another good option but I actually think its a little long for me, as I will use it for small gliders/jerk baits. I was hoping to hear that the mojo would be just fine, and save a little cash. Which I kind of did. This won't be the most used rod, but I'm still on the fence. As mentioned I love the feel of the legends.

The rod looked new save a very small smudge on the handle. I have seen quite a few on the forum here over the last few months.

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | I agree with clammer I have the top n tail and bought our oldest son the 8' mh mojo. The mojo is still a decent rod but the top n tail has a much nicer feel to it. I also have the long ranger and more often than not still grab for the top n tail it is by far my favorite rod. As mentioned look for a deal on a used one or hit one of the shows. I've managed to get my ltms at the shows new for really great deals or I wouldn't be lucky enough to have them.

Posts: 109 Location: Wisconsin River | I use the top&tail and the mojo swim bait rod. The mojo is a slower taper but almost identical. grips are smaller diameter. Put a high speed reel on it and burn small baits in spring. Use the T&T for med. size baits with a more powerfull reel. The Downsizer is great for small jerk baits. Sling blade handles almost everything else.

As mentioned I love the feel of the legends. as far as the handle length, if you look on the croix website where it shows the handle charts for each rod you will see that the length of the legend bass swimbait rod from the butt end to the center point where the reel would mount on the reel seat is an identical 16" to the legend top n tail so nothing is lost there. i am a 100% legend fan and just can't bring myself to step down to anything else since buying my first one many years ago, but if you want to spend less and still get a lighter weight rod vs. the top n tail there is a mojo bass swimbait rod with the same 16" long butt end and has the same lure & line weight specs as the legend bass swimbait rod...

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | If by smaller, lighter baits you mean bucktails and spinners then Mojo would be fine. If you plan on throwing some creatures and little swimbaits and crankbaits in the weeds then I would go with a Tournament.

Posts: 42 Location: Ontario | I have both but the top n tail hands down is my choice. The mojo doesn't control a big fish the same. Also the life time warrenty on the LT is tough to beat when compared at 1 year for the mojo.

Posts: 537 Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | I mean by smaller and lighter as in any bait I would throw that would be too small or light to be thrown on a heavy predator. I'm sure that I would use it for some other top water Baits as well.
