Posts: 415 | How dare someone try to make their picture look good! But seriosuly, as long as someone isn't running around trying to pass of their 40" as a 50" because they're holding it out who cares? Never ceases to amaze me what some people take offense to nowadays.

But seriosuly, as long as someone isn't running around trying to pass of their 40" as a 50" because they're holding it out who cares? Never ceases to amaze me what some people take offense to nowadays. No one is offended. And I agree, hold your fish however you want to. I'm not even saying don't hold it out in front of you. But we've all seen alot of claimed "monster" or "beast" fish that are really (albeit very nice) 47"-48" fish being implied that they're colossal "giants." And from the pics, they do look to be 55's!...and it's not on accident.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | That's pretty funny. I'm going to have to foreward that one on. I try to make my fish look pretty true to size in my pictures if I can. I used to hold fish very close trying to not over inflate the size but even nice fish looked pretty small. Holding them at a comfortable angle somewhere between right next to your body and way out seems to give pretty accurate results. Last year I bought a new camera that has a wider angle lense. It allows you to get close to the angler/fish and fit everything in the frame. That makes fish look HUGE! I took a "fun" shot with it of my dad holding a 36. The thing could have probably been passed off as a solid mid 40's fish to somebody not paying very close attention. So, the camera a person uses can be another variable as well. Seems like you need to hold panfish out to make them look like anything. Even a 14 inch crappie doesn't look like much unless your holding it out some. Posts: 489 | I have a pic of a 42 that I held out and it looks huge I always ask my non musky buddies to compare it to my normal shot of a 48 and tell me which is bigger, they always say the 42. It's kind of fun to do!

Posts: 1220 | I remember a seminar at one of the Musky Hunter schools that actually contained detailed instructions for taking the best photo. While it clearly included ways to maximize your fish, it also talked about simple stuff like keeping the fish in a large net until the moment when all was prepared. That included maybe turning the boat so that the sun was at your back, being sure to take off your sunglasses, having the camera turned on and prefocused by your partner as well as totally making sure the actual bait you used is not in the photo. I think it's great that anyone wants his fish to look as big as possible--especially if it influences them to release it and have a better story than a dead fish would tell.

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | It's no coincidence that many of the better known muskie anglers are quite small in stature. This fish caught by esteemed guide/historian Larry Ramsell is actually 36" Edited by Flambeauski 2/8/2013 10:13 AM Attachments ---------------- superfish2.jpg (10KB - 221 downloads)
