I have emailed Okuma about this but haven't received any response. I need to replace a couple of guides on some of my EVX rods. I plan on doing the repairs myself, although I have never done this before, and would like to do it right. My question is what size (most important), make, model of guide do I need? First one I need to replace is the tip on a "EVX-C-861XH-T" rod. Also I have two of the normal guides that also need replacing. Both are also from 8'6" EVX rods. One of them is the 3rd guide down from the tip, and the other is the 7th guide down from the tip.

Sorry if that is confusing, I couldn't think of a better way to describe which guides I need replaced. I've done a lot of searching online but am having a real hard time figuring out just which guides and tip I need. Any help is appreciated. I have the old ones stripped off, I just need the new guides so I can finish them up.

According to their website, they use ALPS guides on their musky rods. Take a look at the guides you removed, they may have the size written on them. I mostly work with Fuji guides and many of them have the sizes on the guide frame. Most factory rods are wrapped something like this: 16, 12, 10, 8's to the tip. I'm assuming your Okuma is the same. As far as the tip size, get a tip top sizer at Gander Mt, Cabelas, etc and measure the size. I'm assuming it's gong to be around a 7 or 8. The tip-top you'd need would be something like 8-7 or 8-8, the first number being the ring size and the second number the size of the tip in 64ths of an inch.

You can check the guide model by going to Batson Enterprises website and looking through their casting guides:

If I can be of any assistance, shoot me a pm.

EDIT: JEREMY'S FAST!!!
They use Alps guides (Batson) I'm guessing a size 8 for the 3rd from the tip and 8 or 10 for the 7th down. There's 3 different model Alps 2 footed guides, IDK if Okuma uses any of them or if they have their own make from batson. Tip you can measure with a caliper to 64ths of an inch, thats the size tip top you'll need (8/64ths is a size 8) You don't NEED to use Alps guides, any heavy duty batson or fuji will work.

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. I'm hoping to hear back from Okuma so I don't have to buy a "tip-sizer" just to figure out what size it is.

Where are you located? You could just walk into Thornes (with the rods) and and walk out with exactly what you need.

Michigan, and in my area musky tackle and equipment is sparse at best. I checked around the area for a reputable rod repair man before looking into doing it myself and there wasn't one within reasonable driving distance either. I should be all set now, thanks again.

Ja Rule,

I've had the guides on my musky rods replaced by a guy from my walleye club (DWF) who buids & repairs rods. He charged me $10 a guide to replace my broken guides. He's in Southgate, MI.
