Here you go. The 400D is the top photo with line, the 300D is the bottom one. BR Attachments ---------------- photo-101.JPG (112KB - 692 downloads) photo-86.JPG (108KB - 292 downloads)

Posts: 833 | I have a 300EJ Curado and handled the 300D this week for the first time. I can see myself switching out my 300EJ for a 300D at some point in the future. 300D has very similar speed, is more powerful, and is much smoother. Initial observation was it would be a wonderful jerkbait/ small bait reel.

Posts: 1660 Location: central Wisconsin | What are you looking to gain with the 300 over the 400? The 400 reels foot is offset towards the left and also it is sunk higher in towards the center of the reel. This makes it sit quite a bit lower on the rod and with a lot less overhang on the palming side. I own a 400D and it is much easier to palm than a 400B. The 300 does have a higher retrieve ratio but that spool looks really narrow meaning you would not have the high ratio for a good portion of the retrieve.

Posts: 122 | I am going to be picking up a new reel soon and it will either be a 300d or 400d. To anyone who has used both, what advantages does the 300 offer over the 400? I know the line pickup is supposed to be a little faster with the 300 but with the narrow spool maybe it really isn't much faster? Any feedback is appreciated.

The 300's spool is narrow, but it holds the full 150 yard spool of 65lb pp super 8, so the capacity is more than specs list, so I think you would maintain the line pick-up even with 80lb spooled on it. The 400 allows the ability to throw all baits, large or small. There does not seem to be any difference is comfort/palming the reel as the extra width of the 400 seems to be added to the crank side. I think you would be happy with either, but the 400 really has no limitations. BR
