| Howdy, all. Sunday, I went creek muskie fishing with the venerable Buckeye Tom. We hit some larger streams this time. High waters earlier in the week were receeding, leaving behind vast mudflats upon which we made our casting platforms. Water was still fast and cloudy, and there was intermittent rain.
I began the day with a new Treats bait, nicknamed Brutus (brother of BUBba). I like this bait, it worked a number of different patterns in the swift water with ease and did not snag.
Totally different story for Tom's big Rapallas. We spent some time with my lure retriever pole unhooking his baits. He had a new plug knocker but the current would not allow it to connect to the bait properly. Someone should-a had a video camera! After failing to unsnag one SuperRap, he broke off the line and the lure popped up into the current. Picture two grown men running thru the mud and woods along this creek chasing this bait, stopping occasionally to cast Brutus after it but never quite snagging it; then, the current brought it close to the bank and Tom extended the lure pole and caught it.
In six hours we failed to raise a fish. It still was fun and he had some great stories about monsters he'd hooked at different spots during warmer weather. We returned, tired and muddy, to his house for a warm bowl of chili, entirely convinced that we'd still had a better day than a couch and football game could have provided. The Quest continues! Still plenty of time and soft water. soon, very very soon. m[] |

| I would have traded the couch and a football game for a day like that anytime! |

| Well, Steve, you may have a chance to fish with Buckeye Tom, I'm trying to talk him into coming to the Cave Run outing. Maybe you could allow him space in your boat for a day? thanks, m[] |

| Mikie,
You may want to try small Bass Creepers, stay on the surface,blop-plop-plop!
Toss them near down falls, inside turns and back of holes. You will see a little swirl, then you will feel weight, set the hook could be a Big One!Lindy Tiger Tube 8" in white color is another good stream action bait as well.I will be fishing a couple streams in Ohio the weekend after Christmas myself.Good Luck!

| You got it, dude. I hope the sign-up gets rolling and picks up steam. What are you driving, now, did you trade the Tuffy from last year? I need to get you behind the wheel of that Gambler for a while. Tony seemed quite taken with it about the time he hit 60! m[] |
