I'm looking for a new net, looking for something light weight since i'm alone 80% of the time. Are there better options out there then the frabil 9530 joe bucher uses?

Big kahuna works well by yourself . With the bigger hoop you have a little more room for error. It take alittle getting use to as its not really lite. As for a lite net the beckmans are pretty decent nets for fishing by yourself.

I thought I would try and save money 4yrs ago and go cheap. I bought the salmon/muskie net from Cabela's knowing I would later buy the Frabill large heavy duty bag. The Hoop is 32 x37 Frabill, buy the handle is a 4' Cabela's round handle. I had to put electrical tape to get it to tighten up, and it does not align itself to snap locked. It works! But in the end I did not save a dime. Buy the Power catch or Big Kahuna! For the basic tools of Muskie fishing sometimes it pays to grt the right stuff up front hope this helps!

I use the conservation net from frabill for fishing alone, works great. BR

I think the power catch is the one bucher uses . But you can get diffrent netting on them. You want the thicker coated bag

bucher uses the conservation series on the show ( I am looking as well and talked to the frabill guy and joe at the chicago show) There is ahuge weight difference, so it is nice for fishing by yourself, but the net is thinner so a bit more prone to tangles

conservation series is certainly lighter but to me looks like a fin splitter to me

Well, it isn't. The netting is very forgiving to the fish all the way around.

I have been fortunate enough to put a few fish in it and had no issues with tangles or split fins. BR

Huge weight diference in the power catch and the 9530 conservation series bucher uses?

Just make sure you get the original equipment in any net! I like the thicker bag for myself, though I forgot to check out the conservation net at Chicago. It sounds like a great choice if your fishing by yourself!

Havent gotten to check out the conservation series either but I use the frabil big game with the heavy knotless. I fish alone probably 90% of the time and love it.

I am going to be upgrading my net as well before season gets into full swing. We fish out of a smaller boat and will be getting one of the nets that break down, what does everyone think of the stowmaster?

I deffinetley like frabils nettin g the best by far. I fish out of an old 14' boat and use the frabil big game. I stow it on the side and it stands up some in the center but you can still fish a man in the back and one up front and its never been an issue.

I have both the Frabill Big Kauhauna and also the Frabill 9530 conservation series net. The 9530 is way lighter and easier to use if you are solo. I use that net when by myself all the time. I've had no issues with it and no harm to the fish. If I was looking to buy a net again I'd go with the 9530. I think the bag will last longer on the Big Kauhauna but it's much heavier and harder to use when netting solo.

The stowmaster is a nice net and folds up nice for smaller boats. The down side is it is fairly heavy so if you fish by yourself that could be a issue. Also when I have used the stowmaster we keep it in the unfolded position because we don't want to lose a nice fish struggling to open the net up in the heat of battle. So in the long run it really hasn't saved that much space. Now I use the biggest Beckmann. It is light weight and has a nice big bag that is kind to the fish. Just my .02$.

I see team rhino already chimed in, but YES, the weight difference is huge.

+1 Both Bucher and Saric use the thin netting. SMH.

I do 80+% of my fishing solo and use the Largest of the Stowemaster's nets and I do not think it is too heavy. Works great... Here's 50+ of Tonka musky hanging out in it last summer...

I am going through fish picture posting withdrawl and needed an opportunity...forgive my jacik-assiness...

I use a Frabill Big Game - one size down from the Kahuna. I'm not the biggest guy by any means and have no problem using it when alone. I stayed away from bags with thinner mesh just because it seemed like anybody on TV using thinner mesh netting had a big bird's nest of fish, bait, and net as soon as the fish rolled after being netted. I haven't used anything with the thinner mesh so maybe they've improved things.

With the excitement of catching a musky, I've never noticed the net feeling heavy when scooping up a fish. Have had fish to 49 inches in mine that fit well. If I was in MN or Canada where upper 40 to 50 inchers were a little more common the big Kahuna would be nice.

I fish solo most of the time and I've found the Beckman to be the best for me. They seem lighter to use 1 handed and what's really nice is that if you accidentally let it go when you're releasing the fish they tend to float a while. The Frabill I had sank like a stone when I took my hand off it. They're both good nets, but if you're by yourself I'd look at the Beckman.
