Posts: 555 Location: Tennessee | Going next week to file taxes then it shall soon be new Terrova time. Right now for a new 80lb with foot control and ipilot I'm looking at around $1420. I'm waiting right now to see what the Marine shop my dad works at can get on a refurb unit from Minn Kota in the 80lb. At the present time they have a 101lb without ipilot but that has autopilot that has been setting there for about 3 years and I was told I can get for about $1100 but I'd say cash in hand could get it down to at most 1k. If I do that I could just spend the 400ish to toss a new ipilot on it and be good to go for about the same as getting the new 80. Boats already got a good harness for 24V that it currently has so a new 50amp breaker and jumper wire and I should be set with the additon of another battery. I'm just not sure what's the better deal and if it's worth it or not. It's going on an 18ft Bassboat. I also have to buy a new onboard charger anyways since mine is KIA so it don't matter whether I or not I have to get a 3 or 4 bank.

Posts: 555 Location: Tennessee | I've been out where my current 65lb would only move the boat into the wind when wide open on 5. I just fish the south so we don't tend to see the large rollers like one would find on some of the larger lakes but I also don't mind to fish some pretty nasty weather if given the opportunity.

Posts: 142 | I sent you a pm. I can't speak for which motor you should get, conventional wisdom seems to be, get the biggest one yout boat can handle. I have an 18 ft flat bottom jet boat and I went with the 80 lb. I haven't had the opportunity to test it out yet.

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | I missed the part about "used." Yeah a grand is way too much for a used trolling motor that's been sitting there that long and doesn't even iPilot on it. For the effort of installing a 36v system on your boat and getting a "new" 80 lb for the same price...for a boat and fishing conditions that really only need 80 lbs...to me that's an easy decision.

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | I'm sorry, is the 101 used or new? And why has it been sitting there for three years? What's the shaft length? I was reading this last night on my phone and reading too fast. Either way, let me start over and I'll still say I'd get the 80 with iPilot and the shaft length you want and not mess with the extra battery for you boat and application.

Posts: 555 Location: Tennessee | I've got to check the shaft length. It is a factory refurb unit, the 101#. They've had it awhile just because it's a dealer that usually only sells smaller aluminum boats that normally wouldnt require over a 12V or they sell large pleasure boats without trolling motors. I'm gonna go check on it just to see but I'm kinda leaning more to just sticking with 24V out of simplicity.

Posts: 1460 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Minn Kota once a week sends out to their certified centers a sheet with a listing of available reconditioned units. Working with my local guy, Chuck Brod over the past 6 weeks, he advised me to call him each Monday to see if the one I was looking for (Terrova 101/US--I-Pilot--60") showed up on the list that he gets by email each Monday. Well, lo and behold--called today and snapped one up for $1,200, free shipping with a one year warrenty. The other upside is I'm doing business with a local guy I trust. If you are in the market, I would suggest this approach.

Posts: 555 Location: Tennessee | Well for an update. Dad called me on that 101. They offered me the 101 Terrova, non US with Auto Pilot for 800. 54" shaft so if shallow, worst case I might have to raise it up slightly but no big deal, it'll be good trolling or in rough water.
