Location: central Wisconsin | I am looking for a reel to mount on my LT Long Ranger. 3/4 to 3 ounce weight. I throw a lot of 6" Shallowraiders, smaller Slammers, Buchertail 500's. I would like to go with the new Revo Toro NACL but am unsure if the 6.4 is to high of a ratio. What would you guys recommend, 5.4:1 or 6.4:1? |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Don't forget you can change out gears for about $50.00 cost and about 30mins. ABU sells the gears and pinion holder and about 30mins of your time you can go from the 5.4: to a 6.4:1 and back.
I would go with the 5.4:1 over the 6.4:1, if I had to choose only one. The 5.4 will work almost with all baits, you may have to reel a little faster, as with the 6.4:1 you are locked in and it is hard to slow down your retreive and you have no power for hard pulling baits. |

Location: Canada | I'm using Abu Garcia's Revo Toro Winch on my Long Ranger and love it. Probably, agree with PIKEMASTER on the 5.4:1 if the choices are between the two gear ratios you're interested in. |

Location: Walker, MN | I like the 5.4. If you get a follower, you can always crank faster, with the 6.4 you might not have it left in the tank. I would rather be under geared then over geared. |

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | I have the revo toro 50hs the 6.4 on my long ranger and love it especially for the bucktails and smaller baits you mentioned. If your going to be throwing anything larger get the 5.4. I'd be interested in getting the parts and being able to swap back and forth have to check that out. |

Absolutely right, also the 5.4:1 is more durable and smoother.
Also , if you occasionally want to pull DB10's or alike with it, you would regret the 6.4:1

This setup will be used as I described above, no DC10's.
I am also contemplating a 400D over the 5.4 as the Calcutta actually brings in more line with a lower retrieve ratio if you believe the specs on each. I am a little timid to buy something made in Korea, my old Abu Morrums were built in Sweden. |

On the 6.4 the pinion gear is smaller then the 5.4, so on the 5.4 you will have more teeth meshing with the main gear and it will be smoother then the 6.4 gears.
The Toro may be made in Korea but don't let that stop you, the plant is a new state of the art plant.
Yes the 400D has a higher line pickup over the Toro because the spool is taller on the 400D over the Toro. both reels are some of the best you can buy today.
I would go to a retail store and hold each reel and see which one you like better in your hand. The 400D has a higher line pickup and it will handle hard pulling baits with ease.
The Toro comes with a std handle and a Power handle while the 400D only comes with a very large double paddle handle. |

Location: Wisconsin River | IMO, The only reason to not pick the toro is if you want to go realy fast pulling big blades. The only reels I would consider would be Saltist or Tranx. Im sure there are others out there.
Oh Ya. for what you are talking about. small blades and jerk baits. 6.4 ratio. anything bigger get the 5.4 |

Location: West Metro, MN | I've used both the 5.4 and the HS version of the Toro and for what you describe I think you would be happy with the HS. Like others have said if you want to throw 10's then the 5.4 or winch are better options. Great reels in my opinion. |
