Posts: 667 Location: Wisconsin | Inspired by Carl asking for help with his new rig (lucky guy ) I have my old 1987 Fisherman that has a TM that is need of the boot as well as an antigue depth finder. Soooo, I would like some help. I will spend what I need to, but don't want overkill. I don't want to buy and then decide it not what I needed and that for a bit more I could done it right the first time. I fish for smallies on my home lake of Geneva, and Muskie fish in Northern WI whenever I can. I am a casting kind of guy, but now that my kids are all gone to college I am hoping to fish more and expand how I fish. What do ya think??

Posts: 136 Location: Dane Country | Started redoing an '87 Tuffy Muskie Rampage. Found a Minn kota 101 last year. A bit over kill for the boat. Got it from a guy who used it maybe a dozen times. Looks brand new and $300 was a great price. I guess you can never have to much trolling motor. LOL

Posts: 682 Location: Sycamore, IL | Clammer- I fish Geneva a lot as well and it is exactly the type of lake(deep+clear with not a lot of obvious structure) that you can benefit from using some of the new sonar technology. Side imaging technology has helped me with both casting and trolling on this lake. If you want to "expand" how you fish, I would start with updated electronics and keep your eye out for a used trolling motor. Good luck... Matt

Posts: 667 Location: Wisconsin | Thanks MD75, I think that is what I am going to do. I have been watching for a used HB, but have had no luck as of yet. I hope to get a larger unit by going used than I could afford new.

Posts: 151 Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | clammer, I have a 797c2 HB unit that I would be interested in selling. Not sure if you are looking for something larger but this unit has SI and DI and comes with transducer, box, and instructions. let me know if you are interested and we can discuss a fair $. I'm new to this site, spent a lot of time on LL b/c I never came across this one. I'm looking to upgrade my graph but will probably go with lowrance simply because I already have an hds 5 on the bow of my boat and would like to link them together. Location: MN | I own a 1990 Ranger 680t and over the past four years have slowly updated it when good deals presented themselves. I repowered with a used 60hp Etec, Humminbird 997 SI, Humminbird 858c, and Terrova trolling motor. Also added a custom rear casting deck and did some work on the trailer. Overall I keep it clean, vacuumed, and waxed; it looks good for a 23yr old boat. The boat is old but the additions have brought new life to it. If you like your boat making upgrades with newer electronics or updated trolling motor is smart; it's definitely cheaper than buying new or slightly used boat. Both the Terrova and Humminbird electronics are awesome. If you don't want to jump up to a Terrova I have friends who like the MinnKota Powerdrives, just make sure to have a spare pedal. The 700 series Humminbird units look nice; combine them with Lakemaster chips and you have a deadly tool. Enjoy shopping. Edited by Mak51 1/24/2013 10:25 PM

Posts: 667 Location: Wisconsin | Scooter, that is a great deal on your terrova! I think the 101 will be just enough to move your boat...man that is alot of thrust! adubs, I will look at the 797c2 and see what I think Mak51, glad to see another '87 680T! I love the boat, just got to get her up to date with all that is out there now. I would like more info on your upgrades, casting deck and all!
