Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | I know I am a little behind on these baits and don't own one yet but I am looking to grab a few believers. I am planning on getting both straight, jointed and a super believer. However I was wondering what people preferred. Straight?? Jointed?? or Super?? And why?? Thanks in advance!

Posts: 812 | Jointed, straight, or super are hard to beat. For my purposes, I like the 9" Super Believer in $9 Smallmouth Bass for casting and both of the 10" models for trolling. The 8" and 7" jointed versions are also great for casting so really the question depends on your application.

Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | I suppose I should mention that I plan on buying all three because I understand how important the applications are for each one. But because I have never used one, I am not sure which applications goes to which bait... Outside of knowing that I would troll the larger version and cast the smaller version

I have 6", 7", and 8" Believers. I have both straight and jointed Believers. Given the choice, I would go with straight over jointed. I really like the $9 Bass finish--perhaps Drifter's best. White and orange bellied perch are also nice. Unless you are fishing dark water, I would not get too funky with the colors.

Posts: 84 | Lots of good material here on believers. I suggest doing a search for "believer" both under Tackle and general discussion. Author Trophymuskie has some excellent tips on how and when to troll jointed vs straight as do many of the other posters. Lots to be learned and it is important stuff for both casting and trolling. There was a great one on using solid 10" Believers as jerk/surface baits by poster fishpoop. Be sure to cover all available years...you may have to search in 3 year incremets. Location: Minneapolis | Hands down the best crankbait for fishing heavy cover. It just plows thru the weeds and the big nose pushes the weeds out of the way. I also like to burn them in like a bucktail and a good one will walk side to side if cranked really fast.

Posts: 1295 Location: WI | I prefer the 10" straight models with no rattles. Of course I caught my first 50" on a jtd w/rattles...ha! Lost a nice fish this fall on a 13" sucker pattern while trolling. For whatever reason I've had action on 2 really nice fish while lifting the rod out of the rod holder while trolling. You'd think they're erratic enough, but they must get some followers and that extra movement/something converts them. I haven't had that happen with other cranks yet, only Believers. The jtd models sound really cool as a topwater, think Hawg Wobbler style. Haven't caught a fish casting them yet, but I've had one come up and chase it. They work well in the prop wash on the deep eye, or long lined on the shallow eye.
