Posts: 283 | Now that I can't fish in NY anymore, I am starting on a project boat I bought this fall and had an idea. I will be stripping and reprinting the entire boat and was wondering if anybody has painted or ever thought of: painting "fish" on the bottom/side of their boat to either resemble a baitfish or a school of fish? I was thinking this could possibly attract a fish or at least get it to look towards you. It could result in more fish being "attracted" to the area you are in or it could be a big waste of time/effort. I want to try a couple here and there, probably not a school, just 2 or 3 on a side. I was thinking maybe airbrushing them or a simple way would be to cut out a 6-8" oval out of the aluminum foil tape. This could easily be removed if wanted and it would throw off quite a flash for little effort being put into the idea. So, what are your thoughts on this crazy idea?

| You go out with a bright red shirt, and Ill wear a light grey or blue shirt, and see how many you get at the side of the boat... Makes sense to me | |||

Posts: 8847 | I'd be worried about a musky following up your lure, seeing the nice fish painted on the bottom of the boat and trying to eat it. *BONK!!* crap, there goes another one... As for the clothing comment? Say what you will, but I have caught many more fish wearing a faded blue shirt than any other color, and seen quite a number of good fish spook and turn off when someone in the boat was wearing red or orange. Some of them will eat not matter what, and some will not eat no matter what. But I'd rather not scare off the ones that fall somewhere in between.

Posts: 1220 | Two things: One, it would be hard to imagine Saric not wearing the bright sort of "Brag Shirts" that blatantly list his sponsors when filming. After all, that's the "hi-vis" sort of thing the sponsors are paying for. As for me however, not being quite as good a stick as Mr. Jim (OK being no where near it) I always put on one of the sky blue St. Croix shirts on any tournament day. And here is why: The two things that you will learn for certain are (1) most of the fish you net (55-70%) will be figure eight fish and (2) it's pretty hard (unless you're Mr. Saric) to not get a litttle agitated trying to get a figure eight fish to eat. Bending over to make the deep turns, speeding up, slowing down (peeing your pants) whatever will cause quite a movement of the silowette of your body against the sky. I admit to not being any sort of fisheries biologist but to me, it just sort of makes sense that blue shirt against blue sky is less commotion than red shirt against blue sky. Just sayin! Posts: 100 | @northwind mark 1.) Mustaches are legit 2.) Who hasn't caught a musky on an Orange Black Dot Suick! In all seriousness, I wanted a lure on the side that didn't blend in with the boat color. Bright orange does the trick. As far as the mustache, it's just supposed to be the top jaw bone.

| Saric catches very few fish on the 8. If you like to catch em boat side wear neutral colors. Will it drastically improve your catches? Probably not, but it will help. Some saltwater guys (usually trollers targeting Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado ect...) put schooling bait fish stickers on the bottom of their boats!?! Hasn't really caught on because these large boats generally stay in the water and require bottom paint at regular intervals. I've always liked white hulls to cut down on the "looming shadow effect." Again, these are very minor things but it may add a fish or two to your totals over the entire season. Edit: To answer your question...It's not that crazy...try it and let us know. | I think fish on the bottom of a boat wouldn't hurt. Another Suggestion- Paint the trolling motor blades in a firetiger pattern to act as an attractor. | |||

Location: Eastern Ontario | Why not paint weeds or brush on the side of your boat and the fish will think your lure is getting away. Better still nail tree branches on the side of the boat.

Posts: 283 | Maybe I shouldn't be wearing a bright green sweatshirt when I fish anymore! I planned on painting the boat gunmetal gray, I think the bottom section I might do a lighter gray to try to blend in with the sky some.
