Hey guys,

when do you use what kind of bucktail?
Are there some special circumstances influencing your choice?

Thanks!

Wind or lack there of can be a factor on my choice, although there are times it doens't seem to matter. In general the rougher the water the bigger the blades. More presenece to stand out against the background "noise". Some times if it you are fishing skinny water and it is calm, the smaller presentation can be the ticket. Hard to really know what is best without just getting out there and trying stuff. Mileage is the best teacher.

I'm sure my answer is fairly standard and its usually more about the spot than if 8's vs 10's will lead to success but here are my general thoughts: I'll reach for 8's when I feel the main triggering factor is going to be speed - also more likely to throw 8's in clear water (with crazy speed).... if I'm throwing blades low light/night I'll always pick 10/13's and am usually going to use them in water with under 3 feet of visability. Also, there is something "special" about throwing 10's (with speed) back at fish that didn't commit to say a glider, topwater, rubber, etc.

Pommes --- make or buy single-bladed #8,#10 & #12 fluted magnum blades on in-line bucktails and you will be pleasantly surprised next season !!! --- jim
